Note 4 Can’t Call Certain Number

Problem: There are two numbers that I can’t seem to call. When I do they go straight to message bank. They don’t receive my texts either. However both can call and text me. They both have iPhones. It is difficult as I have to call these numbers daily. I have deleted both numbers and re-entered them. I have done software updates. I have taken my battery out. I have checked my settings.  I have had both parties delete my number to see if that worked. But no.i have spoken to my carry  and there isn’t an issue  there.  Especially since one of the numbers i try to call is on a plan under my name. Would love some help please.

Solution: It’s good that you checked with your carrier regarding this issue and since they verified that the problem is not on their end then we can concentrate the troubleshooting on the phone itself. Since only two numbers are affected then it’s probably a setting issue. Below are the recommended troubleshooting steps that you should do.

  • Try to dial the number differently by following the different patterns. (XXX-XXXX) phone number, (XXX-XXX-XXXX) area code plus phone number, (1-XXX-XXX-XXXX)1 , area code and phone number.
  • Check if the numbers are included in the blocked numbers list. Tap Phone. While on the Keypad or Logs screen, tap the Menu icon then tap Settings. Tap Call then tap Call Rejection. Tap Auto reject list. To allow calls but leave number on the list, clear the check box next to the number. To allow calls and remove number from the list tap the Trash can icon. Select the checkbox next to the number. Tap Done.
  • Backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

Note 4 Goes To Emergency Calls

Problem: My phone goes to emergency calls only / no service several times. It is literally impossible to make calls as it quickly drops. Yet another issue is with the phone quickly turning off even at high battery percentages which only turns on when connected to the charger. I tried factory resetting 2 times and also cache clearing. But the no service issue does remain.

Solution: Regarding the call problem that you are experiencing you should first make sure that you are in an area with good reception. If the reception is weak then the signal in your phone will drop causing this problem. To check if this is a network issue try to verify if the issue occurs in different locations. If it does then this is most likely a phone related problem.

Since you already performed a factory reset which didn’t fix the issue this could be caused by a faulty phone antenna. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Regarding the issue with your phone only turning on with the charger connected this can usually be resolved by replacing the battery with a new one.

Note 4 Line Cuts Off During Calls

Problem: While talking on the phone line cuts off and it shows that I have a missed call from the same number I was just talking to. So annoying. Please help

Solution: The first thing you should do in this case is to check if the issue occurs in a particular area. If it does then it could be a signal related problem. The phone may not be getting a good signal from the network towers which is why the line gets cut. Try to go to a location that is known to have a strong signal then see if the issue still occurs.

If the problem occurs even with a strong signal then proceed with troubleshooting the phone by following the steps listed below.

  • Start your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This will delete the temporary data in your phone that could cause the problem.
  • Start your phone in Safe Mode then make a call. If the issue does not occur then there’s a possibility that it could be caused by a third party app installed in your device. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

If after the factory reset the issue still occurs I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Caller Can’t Hear Call

Problem: caller cannot hear me whether incoming or outgoing. Mic seems to work fine for texting and other uses. Not sure if on affected call if speaker bypasses issue. Do not think location related as if a call is attempted multiple times, without moving, call can be successful, or not.

Solution: You should verify first if he mic is indeed working by opening the voice recorder app and recording a short message. If you can hear the recorded file then the microphone is working.

Proceed with checking if the Bluetooth switch of your phone is off. There are cases when this is turned on the phone connects to a Bluetooth speaker. When this happens the caller will not be able to hear you.

You should also check if your phone is stuck in headphone mode. If this is the case then repeatedly insert the headphones in the audio port of your phone until the headphone icon disappears from the display.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If after the reset the problem still exists you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked as this may already be a hardware related problem.

Note 4 Call Volume Low After Software Update

Problem: Ever since last software update…i have a call volume issue…when i make or receive a call my volume is down on… idk 15%…it’s ridiculous! I turn it up & it does it again! Ive searched 4 a default volume setting 2 no avail! Plz help if u can!

Solution: If this problem occured right after the software update then there’s a possibility that it could be caused by old data from the previous software version that has not been completely removed. To resolve this problem you need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Screen Does Not Turn On After Call Has Ended

Problem: 1. When I am on a call and the screen goes black when I want to hang up it takes a while for my screen to come up I have to press the home button and wait a about 3 sec so I can hit the end call. The call will end if I the other person hangs up. 2. When my phone is plugged up to the charger when it is done charging all the lights cut on and if I don’t click the side button to lock it it will just stay lit  up and the phone will get really hot.

Solution: Both issues appear to be caused by a software problem. The first issue is most likely caused by corrupt data in the phone. Wiping the cache partition from the recovery mode will fix this problem. The second issue is a it tricky. You need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset to fix this. If the problem still occurs then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
