Note 4 Camera Will Not Focus

Problem: My camera will not focus at all.  I tried taken the battery out and cleaning the cache but it  still doesn’t work.  I went to att and they couldn’t help me so tell me what can I do about this. I have nice phone but can’t used the camera

Solution: Aside from clearing the cache you should also try to clear the data of the camera app. This however is done just to troubleshoot the app itself and check if it is an app related problem. If the issue still occurs then try to check the camera lens. Do you see any smudges or dirt on the lens? If there are then this may cause the camera to have difficulty focusing on the subject. I suggest you clean the camera lens using a microfiber cloth or lens paper cleaner. If you are using a phone case then try removing it as well to check if this is causing the camera to lose focus.

Another factor to consider that can cause this problem is an app that you downloaded and installed in your phone. It may be causing a conflict with the camera app resulting in this issue. To check if this is the case you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. Try using the camera in this mode and check if it can focus. If it can then the problem is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the camera still has a difficult time focusing even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This will restore your phone to its original condition when it was a new device. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet. Instead, check and see if the issue still persists.

If the above steps fails to resolve the issue then this could already be a hardware related problem possibly caused by a faulty camera module. I would suggest that you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Camera Has A Hard Time Focusing

Problem: Well I’m having issue with my camera focus. It seem that whenever I want to take a picture the camera have a hard time focusing.

Solution: Just like the issue we addressed above the first thing that you should do is to check if this problem is caused by the camera app. To do this go to the application manager, find the camera app then clear its cache and data. Once this is done check if the camera now focuses normally.

If the problem still occurs you need to check the camera lens if it has any presence of smudges or dirt. If necessary, clean the lens using a microfiber cloth. If you have phone case installed try taking the phone out of its case. Check if the phone now focuses.

Another reason that your phone fails to focus is that it is caused by a third party app. To check if this is the case start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. If the camera focuses in this mode then the issue could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

One last troubleshooting step that you can do should the above steps fail is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If at this point the issue still persists then this could already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Camera Failed Error

Problem: Can’t take a picture, when I open camera it will say camera failed. Also sometimes it will open but camera will show a side and wide stretch view.

Solution: When you experience a camera failed error on your device the first thing that you should suspect is that this is caused by some form of corrupt data in our phone. This is why the first thing that you should do is to clear the cache and data of the camera app. This eliminates the temporary data stored in the camera app which if corrupt has been known to cause this problem. It is also best if you wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode to delete the temporary data of the device. Once this has been done try to check if the error still occurs.

There are also instances when an app you downloaded causes the camera app to crash. Try to check if this is the case by starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are blocked from running. Try using the camera in this mode. If the issue disappears then an app is the most likely culprit. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the above steps fail you should consider backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset.

Note 4 Camera Failed After Lens Cracked

Problem: Cracked the lens on my rear camera and I’m now getting camera failed everytime I open the camera app. Would replacing the lens fix this? I don’t want to open up my phone to the motherboard if I don’t have to.

Solution: Try to backup your phone data first then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone yet. You should first check if the camera failed error still occurs. If it does then you need to replace the cracked camera lens.

Note 4 Media Server Failed Restart Camera Error

Problem: Went to take a photo and ended up with horizontal lines where the sky colour should of been. Tried to use the camera again and now says ‘media server failed, restart camera’ I have removed battery, cleared cache in application settings, backed up my device and restored to factory settings, the problem is still there.

Solution: If the factory reset fails to resolve the issue then this could already be a hardware related problem possibly caused by a faulty camera module. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Camera Recorded Videos Do Not Play

Problem: I took some videos on my note 4 but can’t get them to load or play.  I have downloaded several “video converter”apps but none of them work.  It shows and arrow on the video but the page is black.  When I press the arrow to play the video it says error opening file mp4

Solution: The video file could be corrupt. If the default save location of the camera is the microSD card then try switching this to the internal phone storage. Record a new video then check if it plays. If it does then I suggest you replace the microSD card.

If you are using the internal storage as the default save location of the camera and the issue still occurs. then try to clear the cache and data of the camera app. You should also follow this up by wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Try to record another video then check if it plays.

If the issue still persists then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
