Google Play for Education is supposedly shutting down, according to a new report at least. The company started off this project a couple of years ago to help out educational institutions and students get the best out of the #Android ecosystem. However, given the lack of success this project has seen, it’s only wise that Google is deciding to shut it down altogether.
Google will allow existing users to use the service though, but will stop offering new licenses for the program after March 14, 2016. It is said that the decline in the tablet market has led Google into taking this step as Play for Education was primarily targeted towards tablet users, although it subsequently made its way to Chromebooks as well.
Google Play for Education was started in late 2013 and it’s quite unfortunate to see it being shut down just a little over 2 years later. Have you benefited from Play for Education? If yes, how? Make sure you share your thoughts in the comments section below.
