Problem #1: Galaxy S6 calendar has incorrect time zone when syncing with Outlook on PC

I’m having a problem with the calendar on my Android phone after it syncs with my outlook.com calendar on my desktop or laptop computers. The problem on my phone is the same for the calendar that came with the phone and Outlook calendar that I installed.

If I add an event on my Android calendar, after syncing, the time on the desktop/laptop computer calendar (Outlook.com) is 5 hours ahead.

If I add an event on my desktop/laptop, after syncing, the time on my Android calendar is 5 hours behind. I’ve made sure that all the devices are using the same time zones.

Solution: Hi Alan. Because you did not specify it, we are assuming that you are using Google Calendar in this case. Google Calendar uses local and device time so you have to make sure that the time zone on your Android phone is set correctly. Once you’ve double checked that the phone’s time and time zone are correct, you also need to ensure that the time zone for your calendar is right. Here’s how it’s done:

  • Open Google Calendar.
  • On the left side of the page, click My calendars.
  • Hover over the calendar you want to update and click the drop-down menu .
  • Click Calendar Settings.
  • In the Calendar time zone section, choose your time zone from the drop-down menu.
  • If you don’t see the time zone you want, check the box next to “Display all time zones.”
  • Click Save.

If you want to set the time zone for all your Google calendars, just follow these steps:

  • Open Google Calendar.
  • In the top right corner, click the Settings icon settings gear button > Settings.
  • In the Your current time zone section, choose your time zone from the drop-down menu.
  • If you don’t see the time zone you want, check the box next to “Display all time zones.”
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.

In the event that you may be using S Planner app, configuring the phone’s time and time zone to your local settings should do the trick. Just to go to Settings>Date and time>Automatic date and time.

Problem #2: Galaxy S6 SMS are split up

Hello guys. Hopefully you can help. I did a search in Google and many people are reporting the same problem. So the problem is: when receiving SMS messages, my phone splits them in two. The messages are not even that big. Even on my old shitty non-smart Nokia these same messages would arrive as one.

I have checked every setting there is – can’t find anything that “would not split incoming text messages”.

Solution: Hi Andy. A standard text message has a maximum of 160 characters in length. If a sender’s SMS message goes beyond that, it gets automatically split up. Keep in mind that spaces (one count) and line breaks (2 counts) are also designated as “characters” by the system so even if the sample message above only appears to have visible 133 characters, it has actually consumed the maximum 160-character limit. Some carriers may allow sending of longer text messages using a process called concatenation but you have to check this with them.

Your concern is not an issue on your phone. Kindly ask your wireless carrier if you need more information about the specific protocol they’re using.

Problem #3: Galaxy S6 “Custom Binary blocked by FRP Lock” error

Hello. I recently rooted my Android (Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge from T-Mobile) by flashing a unibase auto root and it was successful. The system was getting overheated and losing battery fast (this could be due to the constant reactivation of com.tmobile.pr.adapt or the excessive space being used) I decided to fix this problem using the factory reset option and restore needed data using Smart Switch. once the data was restored I restarted my phone to allow any all system processes to start fresh.

As it was trying to boot, under “KERNEL IS NOT SEDROID ENFORCING” appeared “Custom Binary blocked by FRP Lock” and did not proceed to open into the home screen even after displaying the original Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge logo.

I’ve tried to factory resetting by opening the hidden menu holding Up Volume, power button, and home button at the same time. Ive tried re-flashing original firmware (5.1.1) and Odin says that it fails. I’m not sure what to do next, thank you in advance.

Solution: Hi Habib. “Custom Binary blocked by FRP Lock” error usually pops up if your Samsung device detects an unofficial attempt to modify the firmware. We’ve addressed this issue for a Note 5 user before so please refer to our answer in this post.

Problem #4: Galaxy S6 email app stops syncing

Hi. I am having problems with my email app in my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. I am using my office email account (IMAP) on my phone email app, and it has stopped updating since a week. Even though i am getting emails which i can check on my outlook and elsewhere on my computer, my phone is not getting any new messages, the latest message in my phone is from a week ago and every time i try to update it, it says ask folders are up to date and no new/unread emails, which is clearly not the case. I have tried restating my phone and clearing the cache but nothing helps, and since my battery is inbuilt, i can’t do a soft reset.  Please help me out. — Shig

Solution: Hi Shig. First, you have to make sure that your phone’s master sync feature is on. You can do that by enabling the Sync button under the notification bar. If master sync is on but nothing changes, try booting the phone in safe mode and observe the phone for 24 hours. If the email app updates properly while in safe mode, try to uninstall apps until the issue gone. Here are the steps to boot in safe mode:

  • Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 20 to 30 seconds.
  • Once you see the Samsung logo, release the Power key immediately but continue pressing the Volume Down key.
  • Your phone should continue booting up and you will be prompted to unlock your phone as usual.
  • You will know if the phone successfully booted in safe mode if the text “Safe mode” is displayed at the lower-left corner of the screen.

Problem #5: Galaxy S6 Wi-Fi keeps losing connection

I purchased a Samsung S6 back in October and had no problem connecting to my home Wi-Fi network. Now, all of a sudden it doesn’t remain connected to the Wi-Fi anymore. This happens only at home. I am able to get Wi-Fi connections everywhere else without a problem. I click the Wi-Fi link, add my password, the phone connects and then it drops the connection within 5 seconds.  When I go to forget the network in the Wi-Fi settings, the phone cannot forget it. I have the option of entering my password or canceling. At other places where I can connect to Wi-Fi, I add the correct password and the phone connects and stays connected. Unprotected Wi-Fi connection is also fine. I have already tried:

  • restarting the phone
  • soft starting the phone
  • unplugging the router
  • unplugging the modem and router

Of course this problem adds tremendously to my data allotment for the month. — Kelley

Solution: Hi Kelley. There may be a glitch causing this problem. We are yet to encounter this issue on other S6 devices so it might also be a result of a combination of factors. We suggest that you do the basic phone software troubleshooting like wiping the cache partition, doing a factory reset, or a booting the S6 in safe mode. Any of these three should restore the normal function of your device’s Wi-Fi. These are the steps to delete the cache partition and do a factory reset:

How to wipe the Galaxy S6 cache partition

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

How to perform a factory reset on a Galaxy S6

  • Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  • When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  • Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  • Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  • Press the Volume Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  • After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.

Problem #6: Galaxy S6 does not sync emails regularly

My default android email app is no longer pushing for emails on its own. I can manually force a push to my mail servers on in the app, but it doesn’t let me know in any way when I get an email in the day. I’m quite forgetful and this generally leads to me missing emails from day to day- very inconvenient.

I can’t fill in information about recently downloaded apps as this has been going on for about four months. The email app didn’t use to do this.

I’ve tried changing the sync settings for the individual accounts in the app. They all say they’re meant to sync every 15 minutes. In the Settings app, the Email app is marked a priority so notifications should circumvent settings like Do Not Disturb. I’m pretty proficient in Google Fu and I haven’t found any help for this on surface level forums.

Solution: Hi Brian. The default Samsung email app is known to change its sync behavior from time to time. We think that an Android or app update may have changed some codes which affected how sync works. Make sure that you wipe the cache partition (steps provided above) first and observe the phone for a few hours. If nothing seem to change, try to delete the app’s cache and data or uninstall updates. Keep in mind that deleting an app’s data is a virtual equivalent of app re-installation. Be ready to configure your email accounts again afterwards. Here are the steps to do them:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Proceed to Applications.
  • Select Manage Applications.
  • Tap the All tab.
  • Look for the email app and tap it.
  • From there, you will see the Clear Cache, Clear Data, or Uninstall updates buttons.
  • Make sure to follow this sequence: Clear Cache, Uninstall updates, Clear Data.
  • Try to give the phone a few hours after doing each of these steps so you can observe how sync function behaves.

Problem #7: Galaxy S6 Wi-Fi won’t turn off

Hi there. I hope you guys can help me troubleshoot further! No matter what I do, my Wi-Fi will not stay turned off. I went through the FAQ you have posted, but it looks like only part of my issue was answered there.

  • I have the Wi-Fi setting turned off (in the swipe down bar)
  • Under Settings>Wi-Fi>More>Smart Network switch – setting is turned off
  • Under Settings>Wi-Fi>More>Advanced> Always allow scanning is turned off
  • Under Settings>Mobile Networks> Connections optimizer> Partner Wi-Fi is also turned off.

Yet somehow, my phone is still automatically connecting to Wi-Fi. I have made it forget certain Wi-Fi networks, just because when I am away from home and using the internet, I don’t want it connecting to a weak-almost-dead Wi-Fi network and breaking my connection. However, there are some networks I use regularly in certain places (ex: optimum) that it still connects to whenever it passes a signal, and it is ruining my life.

I really just don’t know what else I could possibly turn off. HELP! Thank you. — Stacey

Solution: Hi Stacey. Just like our advice for Kelley above, we recommend that you delete the cache partition and/or proceed to factory reset if nothing works. Doing a factory reset may be necessary to ensure that the operating system returns to normal. Android firmware can sometimes get corrupted after an update or by a third party app. Forcing it to return to its default settings can be an effective solution to a problem like yours.

Make sure that you create a backup of your personal data though before you proceed.
