Out of nowhere everytime I pull down my drop menu it says forwarding all videos calls and there’s no way to turn it off. I did three factory resets without auto backup. I’ve talked to T-Mobile more than a few times and they don’t know what the problem is. I’ve looked online for hours. it seems to be I’m the only one with the problem. My phone works fine but it’s annoying me. How can I resolve this problem because when I put my SIM in my S5 there’s no call video forwarding icon? So I hope you can help me out. Thanks. — Joseph
Solution: Hi Joseph. This issue may be caused by a third party messenger app. Try to boot the phone in safe mode for a few hours and try to replicate the issue. If the issue fails to occur in safe mode, that’s a clear indication that one of your third party apps is the reason for this trouble. Here are the steps to boot in safe mode:
- Turn off the phone completely.
- Press and hold the Power key.
- Once ‘Samsung Galaxy Note5’ shows, release the Power key and immediately press and hold the Volume Down button.
- The phone will restart but keep the Volume Down button pressed.
- Once the phone has finished restarting, ‘Safe mode’ will be display in the lower-left corner of the screen.
- You may now release the Volume Down button.
I have the Verizon version of the Note 5. Shortly after I moved to the U.K. It was factory unlocked so still using the phone over here seemed doable.
I’m having a problem when making calls. For example: I call 0115 9297414. After placing the mail call the phone changes the number to +10115 9297414.
I think this has something to do with assisted dialing, but cannot seem to place any calls because of this.

Solution: Hi Edward. Looks like your device thinks that you are trying to do long distance calling (hence the additional +1). We suggest that you talk to your wireless carrier in the UK first about this. The issue may also be triggered by their system thinking that your device which runs a US Verizon firmware is trying to make an international call. Doing the basic software troubleshooting on your device is out of the question at this time, especially that we don’t know if this is network-related.
I think my microphone isn’t working. When I call people through WhatsApp/Facebook Messenger, or when I try to tune my ukulele through my tuner app, my phone can’t pick up any sound. I also tried to make a voice recording on my phone, and no sound was recorded. I desperately need the microphone since I am currently living in Armenia for the Peace Corps, and use WhatsApp/Facebook Messenger to communicate with my family back in the United States. Because I live in a village here, there are no electronic stores readily available where I can take my phone in to be fixed. This issue started a couple of weeks ago. If you have already followed our suggestions in this post on how to fix a possible software-caused microphone problem, then the next best thing that you can do is to have the phone physically checked. Our blog does not provide hardware troubleshooting and solutions so there’s really little to nothing that we can give you in terms of tips.
Just bought a Verizon Note 5 with a clean and confirmed unlocked esn. Put my gophone sim card in, no service. fiddled around with the auto/manual search in GSM and global mode. i did this with a regular AT&T SIM card too. Says “error while searching for networks” after searching for a while and while in home screen in the top left it will say “no service” or “searching for service”.
I’ve rebooted a thousand times and reset the thing too. any ideas on how to get it to work? — Riley
Solution: Hi Riley. If your phone does not detect any AT&T networks, that’s most probably because Verizon phones uses CDMA mobile technology while AT&T GSM. CDMA phones cannot be used on GSM networks and vice versa. The best thing that you can do is to get a CDMA account if that’s available in your area. In the United States, Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular uses CDMA. T-Mobile and AT&T on the other hand uses GSM. The main reason for the incompatibility issue is on hardware-level so there’s no software tweaks that you can do to make it run on AT&T’s network.
Although the phone has a SIM card slot, Verizon users need that to insert their own SIM card for 4G service. While GSM phones use a SIM card for 2G (voice and text), 3G (voice, text, and internet), and 4G (mobile data and VoLTE) to operate and to authenticate an account, CDMA phones utilize built-in electronic serial numbers. Because the serial numbers are coded in the phones themselves, this creates a problem. Try to visit Verizon’s website to see what you can do to hopefully make your phone work on another network.
I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 from a lady. It was originally an AT&T phone but she had been using it on Straight Talk but still on the AT&T network. I have been using an S3 which was originally on AT&T but I switched over to Consumer Cellular which is still on the AT&T network last year. At the time all I had to do was change the SIM card to the one Consumer Cellular (CC) sent me and add an APN via their tech support. I put in my SIM card to test the phone and it made a call fine.
Since then I haven’t been able to make calls or texts. I get either “Emergency Calls Only” or “Network Not Available.” It has been a week. I was told by CCI Tech Support to get a new SIM card, which I did. We were unable to get it to work in the store. Once I got in car to go home it worked for a few minutes and I received some texts and was able to make and receive a call. A few minutes later nothing again. I went to the AT&T store today and she switched the phone back to the AT&T APN and I was able to make a call. After I left I tried to call home and was unable to call or text again.
We have tried a factory reset a couple of times as well. The lady has offered to buy it back so I doubt it wasn’t working for her. The SIM card works in my S3 and my husband’s phone so I don’t think it is the card causing the issues. Do you have any possible solutions before I give up and sell it back? — Donna
Solution: Hi Donna. If your new Note 5 can only momentarily connect to AT&T network before disconnecting again, the problem might be hardware-related. Make sure that the SIM card fits snugly in its slot. You can also try inserting a paper on the back of the SIM card to ensure that it fits properly and stay in place. If that won’t work, we doubt there’s any other thing that you can do on your end. It can mean having to check the motherboard and other network chips to ensure that they’re working properly. Doing is not only difficult but also impractical. We recommend that you simply sell it back so you can get a different unit.
I purchased my phone used from an individual, the carrier was AT&T. She set the phone back to factory reset when she gave it to me, I put my Straight Talk SIM card into the phone and it worked great. Last week after doing the normal updates on the phone all of a sudden when I get or make phone calls no one can hear me unless I put it on speaker phone or talk on a Bluetooth. I did everything that was suggested to me including factory reset. The issue is not fixed and now since factory reset my internet isn’t working properly, so now I have 2 issues. Since people can hear me on speaker phone or blue tooth I don’t see where it would be an issue with my microphone. HELP !!! — Teresa
Solution: Hi Teresa. The first step that you must do to know where the problem lies is by recording your voice while the phone is not on speaker. If you cannot hear your voice, or if it sound very faint, there must certainly be an issue with the microphone when used in normal call mode. That can be due to hardware or software. Here are the steps on how to make voice recording on a Galaxy Note 5:
- On the Home Screen, go to Apps.
- Tap Tools.
- Tap Voice Recorder.
- Tap the Record icon.
- When finished, tap the Stop icon.
Since the issue appeared after doing some updates, you can also try to wipe the phone’s cache partition. Here’s how:
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy Note 5 completely.
- Press and hold the Volume Up and the Home buttons first, and then press and hold the Power key.
- Keep the three buttons pressed and when ‘Samsung Galaxy Note5’ shows, release the Power key but continue holding the other two.
- Once the Android logo shows, release both the Volume Up and Home buttons.
- The notice ‘Installing system update’ will show on the screen for 30 to 60 seconds before the Android system recovery screen is shown with its options.
- Use the Volume Down key to highlight the option ‘wipe cache partition’ and press the Power key to select it.
- When the process is complete, use the Volume Down key to highlight the option ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
- The reboot may take a little longer to complete but don’t worry and wait for the device to become active.
