S5 Freezes When Using microSD Card

Problem: when my SD card is in my phone, it tends to freeze when i go on any app, but i removed the card and it is working fine now. I only have a few apps on the sd card but they were installed straight from the play store, such as facebook. I have never had this problem before when the sd card is inserted. I have only recently purchased the phone and I inserted a new sim card and received a call for the first time on this phone and I wonder if this may have caused the problem because I do not think there is anything wrong with the sd card but it doesn’t work when I insert it. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Solution: It’s possible that the microSD card is causing the issue especially if the card that you have right now has some corrupt sectors. Once the card has corrupt sectors it becomes difficult to access the data stored in it causing your phone to freeze as it struggles to read the card. I suggest you try to get a new microSD card and check if the issue still occurs.

If the problem persists then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset to eliminate the possibility of a  software issue causing this problem.

S5 Freezes After Turning On

Problem: My phone turns on fine but after a few mins anywhere between 2-5 minutes it freezes.  I can’t do anything but turn it off which takes atleast 2 mins to do.  Sometimes an error message “touchwiz home has stopped” pops up and if I hit ok my phone goes black except for the status panel but it is frozen.

Solution: Does your phone have a microSD card installed? If it does then start the troubleshooting by taking it out first. Check if the issue still occurs. If it does then the next step is to check if an app you installed is causing this issue. To do this you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed app are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. If your phone does not freeze in this mode then the problem could be caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

In the event that your phone still freezes even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data then start your phone in recovery mode. From here you should do a factory reset.

S5 Freezes At A Certain Point

Problem: Basically, anything on my desktop (if that’s what it’s called on a phone) will freeze at a certain point and stop showing actions. Examples: clock widget will freeze at a random time, my system flashlight app doesn’t turn yellow when I click it (even though the light itself will turn on), and my ring/vibrate/silent app to adjust my ring volume won’t change from green to orange to red (even though the function itself still works). Because of the stupid clock freezing, I typically end up restarting my phone once or twice a day. The phone itself was factory reset about 2 months ago, and I haven’t just swamped it with apps or anything, so it shouldn’t be too bogged down yet, I would think. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Solution: Does your phone have a microSD card installed? If it does then try taking it out first then check if the problem still occurs. If the issue still persists then there’s a possibility that this could be caused by an issue with the software.

Start the troubleshooting by starting your phone in recovery mode the wipe the cache partition of your device. This deletes the temporary data stored in your phone that could be causing the problem. Restart your phone normally then check if the issue still occurs.

If the problem is still present then what you should do next is to check if an app you installed is causing this issue. To do this you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. Observe your phone if it still freezes. If it doesn’t then an app could be the culprit. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Randomly Rags & Freezes

Problem: My phone will randomly lag and freeze up.  One minute it will be just fine and the then it will suddenly freeze. I have tried everything to fix it.  I cleared my cache and it seemed to work temporarily then it came back, I did a complete factory reset, then redownloaded all the apps I wanted, and again – seemed like the next day it was back to freezing.  Then I bought a memory card thinking that maybe I was using too much memory – nope, still freezing. Daily. And when I need my phone the most — it always freezes at the most inconvenient times.  Sometimes it will just be completely non-responsive for entire minutes…not just a few seconds.  It’s SO FRUSTRATING. I’ve tried everything.  Help.  It just started doing this after the latest Lollipop update- it was completely fine before.

Solution: Since this problem occured right after you updated your phone software then it’s very likely caused by some data issues. What happens usually in this case is that the data from the old software version is not completely removed from your phone. This then causes a conflict with the new software version resulting in issues such as this. To resolve this problem you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Freezes When Updating

Problem: My phone stated it was doing a system update and seemed to freeze on that without allowing any new apps or updates. Then it started updating, first google+ and it took 3 days for that to go through. Then yesterday it started updating maps, it is still updating it. All this time, I am unable to download anything and my alarm clock no longer works. I tried to set a new one and it just didn’t even register when that time came (very inconvenient when you have to get up at 5am). I have tried turning the phone off and when it comes on it continues the update. I have removed the battery and it continues the update. When I touch and hold the update, it brings up the Download Manager. I have even tried turning this off but it made it worse and I had to restart the phone to get things working again then the downloads (still on maps) continued. I have had it connected to WiFi, hoping to speed it along but it is not helping. I would appreciate any advise on this. Thank you.

Solution: This problem could be caused by a glitch in your phone software. You should try to start your phone in recovery mode first then wipe its cache partition. This deletes the temporary data stored in your phone which could cause this problem. If the issue still occurs then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
