S5 Could Not Install Software Update
Problem: I keep getting the notification to download the new software update. I’ve tried about 8 times over the past couple months and every time it downloads for about an hour then shuts down. When it powers back on it says ‘Install interrupted. Could not install software update.’ What is the problem? It’s so frustrating
Related Problem: I am trying to install the update. It gets to 100% then reboots the phone, but then as it is rebooting, it says the installation failed. It doesn’t give a reason as to why.
Related Problem: The phone has been glitchy as of late and I tried to run the software update because my wife always postpones the updates. Now when I try to do the update, the update will download but then the phone tells me that there is not sufficient memory available to proceed. Please help so that I can fix my wife’s phone as soon as possible.
Solution: If the software update successfully downloads but is unable to proceed with the installation then the most likely reason behind this is that there is not enough storage space available in your phone. The storage space that needs to be freed up is the internal storage space of your device and not the microSD card. The recommended space needed for the update to install is 3GB however some of our readers say that they were only able to install the update after freeing up 6GB of storage space.
What I suggest you do to resolve this issue is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done make sure our phone is connected to a stable Wi-Fi connection. Manually download the software update then proceed with the installation.
S5 Software Update Download Failed
Problem: I’d gotten a notice saying there was a software update available. Downloaded the 609.83 MB update. After it was done downloading, it attempted to continue. Then the screen pops up with the message “download failed”. It will only let me check for an update once a day. I can’t check again for 22 hours 55 minutes
Solution: You need to make sure that your phone has sufficient internal storage space available for the download to proceed. Your phone should also be connected to a stable Wi-Fi source so that the download will not be interrupted.
If the problem still occurs even if your phone meets the two conditions above then try to connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Smart Switch running. Use Smart Switch to update your phone software.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done you should be able to manually download the update.
S5 Unlocked Can’t Get Software Update
Problem: My phone is an AT&T Samsung Galaxy s5 unlocked phone that’s connected to MetroPCS. I haven’t been able to update my software to 5.1. I also have some settings that are different from other ones.
Solution: The reason why you are unable to get any software update is that your phone software is checking for the update from the AT&T servers. Since you are already using the MetroPCS service then your device is not able to contact the AT&T servers.
To resolve this issue you should try to connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Smart Switch running then check if the update becomes available. If no updates are found then the best way to proceed is to insert an AT&T SIM into your phone then manually update the device.
S5 Cannot Update Due To Modified Software
Problem: Issue regarding software update. Whenever I tried to update my phone found a error message. “The operating system on your mobile has been modified in unauthorised way. Try update samsung kies or contact customer care center”. I tried to update using kies but failed to do so
Solution: The reason why this error message appears is because your phone could be rooted or is currently running on a custom firmware. Try to check if this is the case. If it is then you will need to unroot your phone and reflash its stock firmware before you can do a software upgrade.
