Problem #1: Galaxy S6 not receiving MMS messages

I’m having trouble (sometimes) receiving MMS text messages. When I receive a MMS message (usually a picture of some type) it comes in from the person sending it to me and it says “Download”. I hit the download button and either nothing happens or it just sits there trying to download but it never does. In order for me to actually look at it I have to reset my phone. Needless to say this is getting extremely annoying! Before Android went to Lollipop 5.1.1 I had no problem. Now it’s been going on for a long time. Also my Wi-Fi goes in and out constantly and I was wondering if this is the problem. Can you help? — John

Solution: Hi John. Both issues may be related to one another. If you think the phone worked fine before you updated the operating system, the best thing that you can do is to wipe the cache partition and/or perform a factory reset. Just follow these steps on how to do both:

How to wipe the cache partition of Galaxy S6

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

How to do a Galaxy S6 factory reset

  • Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  • When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  • Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  • Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  • Press the Volume Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  • After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.

Problem #2: Textra app on Galaxy S6 not showing sent SMS and responses

I can send and receive text messages and they will go thru both ways. But neither my sent or received messages show in my texting app. The one I send goes thru immediately and the One sent back comes thru on my status bar. I can read the first few words in my status bar but when I click on the message notification and the app opens the text message I sent/received is not there. It worked fine until yesterday Afternoon and I did not install anything yesterday. I installed a locking app the other day so I deleted it to see if that was the problem and it wasn’t. I have been using the same texting app for 6 months or longer (Textra) with no problems but I deleted it and reinstalled and it’s still not fixed. I even tried changing back to Verizon’s integrated messages and it does the same thing. Please help. Thanks in advance. — Lori

Solution: Hi Lori. An issue like this is caused by another app, either by another messaging app like Hangouts or by a non-messaging app). Hangouts app is especially notorious in interfering with other messaging apps so if you have this one installed, make sure to check its settings and turn off the “Turn on SMS” setting.

If that won’t do the trick, make sure that you wipe the cache partition and do a factory reset (steps provided above).

Also, you have to make sure that Textra is set as the default messaging app after doing these two procedures.

Problem #3: US Cellular Galaxy S6 stuck in roaming mode

Carrier is US Cellular. Phone was working perfectly from purchase in July 2015 till December 2015. Made no changes to the phone at all. One morning  at startup (around Dec 13 ) service issues started. Where I did have 4G LTE service of 3 or 4 bars now it seems to be stuck in roaming  mode most of the time. I barely have the tip of 1 bar and experience garbled conversations and lost calls constantly. The phone has not been wet, dropped or damaged in any way. Tech support troubleshooting has found no problem. I even had the SIM card replaced 2 days ago…didn’t change a thing. I’m sorry I got this stupid phone and am ready to trash it!!! Help!!! — Tammie

Solution: Hi Tammie. If you didn’t change anything on the phone software-wise (like rooting or flashing), the issue is either on the network, or failing hardware. We assume you already tried the basic software solutions like wiping the cache, factory reseting, or downloading the latest OS update so only other thing that you can do is to submit the phone for a checkup. It’s possible that there may be a problem with the phone’s antenna, triggering the system to switch to roaming mode.

Problem #4: Galaxy S6 and iMessage

So all my friends have iPhones and they are set on imessage group chats and don’t want to have a group message with my Galaxy. I now use an old iphone 4 to be in the group text with them but the only thing is that I have to be on wi-fi to receive and send messages so I was wondering if there was a way that I could get the messages onto my galaxy without compromising the iMessage group chat. Or even so I could see the messages while I’m not on wifi. Thank you. — Jason

Solution: Hi Jason. There’s no way for you to see an iMessage group message in a non-iOS device. Apple’s messaging system is designed to be used exclusively by iOS devices and there’s no way to circumvent that.

Problem #5: Galaxy S6 SMS won’t work when Wi-Fi is not on

Data and Wi-Fi are both always turned on in my phone, but SMS & MMS will not send or receive at all at home if home Wi-Fi is down. Even though 4G shows connected at nearly full strength signal. Account is current, nowhere near exceeding GB allotment. Happens on both message+ and messaging app. Just at home, when I’m away from home it’s fine. I understand MMS requiring data/Wi-Fi but why does SMS malfunction as well??? I don’t understand. And why even though mobile data is connected with good signal, no texts will come or go? — Sarah

Solution: Hi Sarah. SMS is supposed to work even when your phone’s mobile data connection is disabled so there might be an issue with the operating system not properly doing its job. Doing a factory reset should help you fix the problem. Just make sure to create a backup of your personal data like photos, videos, contacts, etc., before proceeding.

Problem #6: Galaxy S6 unable to install Facebook app and showing error -24

I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 and was having trouble with Facebook loading. I uninstalled Facebook and when I tried to reinstall it, I received an unknown error -24.

I have cleared the cache from the Google Play store, Google Services, and Download Manager. I’ve gone into the file manager and removed any previous files related to Facebook. I have uninstalled the updates to Google Play and done the force stop as advised in other forums and rebooted, to no avail. I have removed my gmail account and reinstall it and still cannot get Facebook app back on my phone. =(

I even downloaded a file explorer to find the data file on account.db to delete it and try installing again, but I haven’t been able to find it and when I open the data file, it shows nothing there.

Solution: Hi Kelly. The things that you did are basically the same things that we know should work in this case. Since they didn’t appear to work in your device, consider doing a factory reset to see the difference. Any installation problem is often almost associated with Google Play Store and Google Play Services apps and clearing both of their data have been known to effectively deal with this issue. A factory reset may be needed to restore all default app and system settings. Let us know if this will fix the problem.

Problem #7: Galaxy S6 slow in sending and receiving SMS

Hello. I bought six months ago a Samsung Galaxy S6. It has always been slow at sending messages and I have been told that it was because I had too much, although it was probably ten times less than my previous Samsung that I had no problem with at all. I deleted all of the messages and it worked just a little bit better except since last week, I cannot send messages anymore, or, when it does, it is about four to five hours later… Same problem happens with the received messages. When the icon of a new message appears, it considers it as a new message for 2-3 hours and the messages are received 4 hours after being sent…Could you help me with this problem? Solution: Hi Elodie. First off, you have to check if your messaging app is causing this problem. Make sure to wipe its cache and data. Here’s how it’s done:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Proceed to Applications.
  • Select Manage Applications.
  • Tap the All tab.
  • Look for the messaging app you’re using and tap it.
  • From there, you will see the Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons.

Should the issue remain after wiping the app’s cache and data, try to do a factory reset (steps provided above).

Finally, call your wireless carrier and tell them about the issue if nothing changes after doing a factory reset. There may be a network problem that coincidentally affected your area at this time.
