Samsung Galaxy S5 Screen Flickering Issue & Other Related Problems

One of the things that you will notice first on the #Samsung Galaxy #S5 is its amazing 5.1 inch display. The phone actually uses a Super AMOLED display with a 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution at 432 ppi making images on the screen appear lifelike. One of the main advantages of this display type over IPS displays is that it uses less power while delivering brighter colors and darker blacks.

S5 Screen Flickering

Problem: 5/6ths of my screen flickering when at lowest light setting for brightness. Also flashes a green color on occasion when pressing the power button. Have tried all kinds of support forums. Wiped cache, factory reset,  safe mode. Finally went to technician and they couldn’t fix it either! Please help

Solution: This flickering is common among smartphones with Super AMOLED displays especially if the brightness setting is very low. Unfortunately in this case the only way to prevent the screen flickering issue is to increase the brightness setting of the phone.

Regarding the green color that occasionally flashes you could try the color adjustment setting in Accessibility and see if this fixes the problem.

S5 Whole Screen Flickering

Problem: Hi guys I’m having galaxy S5. I having this phone with me from 14 months. From the last 2 months I’m facing problem with the screen. The screen was flickering at the half bottom side but now the whole screen has started flickering and the problem is increasing day by day. But it only happens when the brightness is kept at a very low level and sometimes a green light comes out from the bottom screen but the green light problem happens only sometimes. I had installed third party app from play store to adjust my brightness and while using the app the flickering does not happen even when the brightness is at a very low level. The app helps me but I want a permanent solution. I also tried safe mode but the problem is still there. It will be good if you tell what is the reason it is happening and the solution if possible.

Solution: Since this model uses a Super AMOLED display one of the issues that usually occurs is the screen flickering problem. Fortunately, this only occurs when the brightness level is at its minimum. The only best solution so far to this problem is to set the brightness of the display higher so as to prevent it from flickering.

Regarding the green light that comes out you can try to resolve this by wiping the cache partition of your phone from recovery mode. This deletes the temporary data stored in your device. If the problem persists then proceed with doing a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing this procedure.

S5 Black Spot On Display

Problem: my screen just had a color dead spot i couldn’t see the bottom left corner of the screen but it was still responsive to touch and it has spread to all of my screen over 3.5 hours it kind of look dark blue but the black spot in the corner is spreading slowly

Solution: This issue usually happens if you dropped your phone which results to damage to the display. You should however check first if this issue is software related by backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset from recovery mode. If the phone still has a color dead spot after the reset then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have the display replaced.

S5 Occasionally Flickers

Problem: So my phone screen started to flicker, but it’s not a constant flicker, it’s more on and off again. It hasn’t messed with any of my apps, but it’s very bothersome, especially when it comes to my eyes. I just noticed that it started happening today (1/1/16) and I haven’t seen this before. I’ve had this phone for about a year and a half .I first noticed the flickering when I was texting someone so, I turned off my phone and turned it back on again. Unfortunately, it was still flickering so I restarted the phone. This however did not work. I have not dropped my phone in water but I have had problems where my phone has restarted while I was on it (i.e. while texting someone). I’m not sure if these two are related, but I’m feeling like they aren’t…. However, I’m more focused on the flickering and was wondering if there is anything I can do to fix it. Thank you.

Solution: Have you tried increasing the phone brightness level then check if the flickering still occurs? There are a lot of people complaining about the flickering issue on their phone with Super AMOLED displays and the best way to fix the problem so far is just to increase the phone brightness.

It’s also best to check if the issue is caused by some form of corrupt data. To check if this is the case just start your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. Restart your phone then check if the problem still occurs. If it does then I suggest you  backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Cracked Screen Went Blank

Problem: The screen on my galaxy s5 was already cracked, then I dropped it again in the grass. After that the screen went blank. I charged it, tried to turn it back on but the screen still won’t turn on, but I can feel the vibration it has when it powers on and it has sound.

Solution: Unfortunately in this case you really have to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have the display replaced.

S5 Screen Constantly Flickering

Problem: Screen flickering.  My phone screen has recently been constantly flickering. The top half of the screen is a greyish shade. The screen is fully functional. It is cracked, but that happened 7 months ago so i don’t think that has anything to do with it. I haven’t dropped it recently. No water damage, nothing. This behaviour appeared seemingly randomly. On top of the flickering, today the bottom half of the screen began flashing green. It looked sort of like dead pixels which is a problem i had on another phone i had too, so I got a bit worried. What can i do? Should i go to a samsung store?

Solution: Since there is a crack on the display this could be causing or aggravating the flickering issue as well as the flashing green issue. I suggest you backup your phone data first then do a factory reset. If you still experience the same issue after the reset I suggest you go to an authorized service center and have the display replaced.

S5 Screen Went Completely Black

Problem: 2 months ago I got a Samsung Galaxy s5. Today my screen went completely black but my phone still seemed to be on. I’ve tried many different tutorials to try to get my screen to work (taking out the battery, holding down certain buttons, etc) but the only thing that happens is a dim, darkish orange Samsung Galaxy logo appears. Other than this the screen stays completely black. I didn’t drop it or anything, this all just happened suddenly. I have problems turning it on sometimes but it usually fixes itself in a few minutes.

Solution: Try starting your phone in recovery mode. If you can access this mode then proceed immediately with the factory reset. Take note that this will delete the data stored in your phone so make sure to do this only if you are willing to lose your phone data. Once the reset is done restart your phone normally.

If the problem still persists or if your can’t access the recovery mode then if the phone still has some warranty you can claim it. If the phone does not have any warranty then you should bring it to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Top Part Of Screen Is Dark

Problem: The top part of my phone is darker than the rest of the screen, there is a clear difference. I have tried switching it on and off, soft reset and nothing has improved. I noticed this when I had the power saving mode on, I switched that off and nothing. Also when on standby the whole screen flashes on and off!! Appreciate any help! Thank you!

Solution: Try checking first if this problem is caused by an issue with the software by backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset. If the problem persists after the reset then this may be a burn in issue which is a problem on AMOLED  screens. You will need to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have the display replaced to fix this issue.
