In this latest guide we will tackle the Galaxy Note 4 top screen not responding issue & other related problems. This problem occurs when you try to touch the screen but it fails to respond. We have compiled several issues of this nature sent our way and have provided the best possible troubleshooting steps below.

Note 4 Top Screen Not Responding
Problem: For some reason the upper part of my note 4 is not responding to tap feedback, for example: switching the camera from front to back, or turning on or off the wifi, also some of the menu taps will not respond to touch?? I just got the phone and have only had it for 6 days. I’m not sure if it has something to do with the smart switch ( thru the app ) that was performed to move data from my old note 4 ( T mobile service ) to my new service through Verizon. The only way I can resolve the problem is restarting the device. This should not be happening with a brand new phone??? Please help!!!!!
Related Problem: When I get a text the screen lights up but won’t turn off. Then the left upper side of my screen doesn’t work sometimes and I have to restart my phone. It’s been freezing alot here lately.
Related Problem: My problem is with the top left of my screen, if there is any type of menu selection to choose. For instance paypal i need to login and choose the 4 bars at the top left to go to the menu to choose to send money, but the menu button on the top left will not do anything. Same with facebook. However I can use the soft back button for facebook on my phone so that’s not an issue, but with paypal if I use the soft back button it takes me out of the app completely. Please help!
Related Problem: I was having numerous issues which were not fixed after a soft reset. I was instructed by at&t to back up everything to my pc using Samsung kies, and perform a factory reset. All is better now except my battery still is draining like crazy and a new problem surfaced. Now when using any app or game, if I need to press something in the upper left corner to perform an action. It does nothing, very irritating, on Facebook I can use the back button but that’s not what the action use on games, other apps,etc.
Related Problem: Left screen part is nonresponsive to touch. In many apps there is 3 parallel lines for the menu , it gets unresponsive to that portion of screen. And sometimes to call someone, the keypad area won’t respond to touch or if does it’s after 10sec or more or never. I have tried small screen ( by doing quick swiping from one side of screen to middle and then back again) to see if the led panel is malfunctioning but this problem still happens in small screen.
Solution: This seems to be a popular problem lately not only for this model but other Galaxy models as well. This issue just happened recently which gives us a hint that it could be a software related problem. While I haven’t replicated this issue on my device other owners who have experienced this issue have come up with various ways to fix the problem.
Let’s start with the Facebook messenger app. It appears that a recent update for this app is causing this problem. Those who are experiencing this same issue say that uninstalling the update for the Facebook messenger app or uninstalling the app completely resolves the issue. Try to do this first on your device. If this the culprit then you may have to wait for a future Facebook messenger app update that comes with a bug fix for this to be resolved.
Now, if you don’t have the Facebook Messenger app installed in your phone but you are experiencing this problem then it could be caused by a third party app installed in your phone. To check if this the case you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. Once the phone is in Safe Mode check if the issue occurs. If it doesn’t then it is very likely to be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
Another factor that can cause this problem is the TouchWiz UI. To check if this is the problem try to download a third party UI from the Google Play Store and use it.
One possible factor than can cause this problem is a glitch in the phone software. If this is the case then you need to backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
Note 4 Screen Is Dark
Problem: hi the battery was on 60% yesterday. when I picked the phone up the use is the screen is dark nothing lights up on the screen. I have the blue flickering light at the top left and the back button at the bottom lights up white. i’ve tried every reset I can find also all cards sims battery out with reset and also battery out and the power button held for 2 mins then battery back in after ten mins but nothing works. Do you have any other ideas? any help would be much appreciated. ps im not sure what the android version is I just clicked older.
Solution: Since you have already tried to reset the phone which didn’t resolve the issue you can try to replace your phone battery with a new one. If the current battery you are using is already faulty then using a new battery will fix the problem. If the problem still occurs even with a new battery installed then this could already be a hardware related problem. I would suggest that you bring the phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
Note 4 Black Screen
Problem: My phone SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 4 has a black screen when i switch it on , i just removed the battery and switch it again, but the screen is black. But sometimes i can see the blue color light in the left corner of the phone. Would you help me what to do. I just got this phone know three days.
Solution: Try to check if you can start your phone in recovery mode. If you can then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone. This will delete the temporary data stored in your phone that could be causing this problem. Restart your phone then check if the issue is resolved. If the problem persists then you need to start your phone in recovery mode again then do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so only consider this step if you are willing to lose your phone data. Restart your phone normally after this then check if the issue still occurs.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then this could already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
