Note 4 No Sound Output

Problem: There is no sound output from any media such as youtube/ default music player. However sound output is perfectly ok at times of receiving notifications/ incoming calls etc. I have already checked the sounds and notifications in settings. All of the available options are at their maximum level. I then plugged in the factory headset to see if I can get any output but result was devastating as I couldn’t hear any sound from my default music player or from videos being played on YouTube. Looking forward for your kind support. Best Regards

Solution: If this issue only occurs when certain apps are used (such as YouTube, music player) then this could very well be a software related problem. The first thing you should do is to make sure that the Bluetooth switch of our phone is turned off. We don’t want your phone connecting to a Bluetooth speaker somewhere and routing the sound to that speaker.

Once the Bluetooth switch is off you should check if the problem is caused by an app you installed in your phone. To do this you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps of your phone are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. Check if the issue still occurs in this mode. If the problem disappears then it is most likely caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Another factor that can cause this issue is a glitch in the phone software. If this is the case then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Intermittent No Sound Issue

Problem: At times my phone would just not ring. Incoming calls say blocked contact (although I have no contact blocked at all), so it turns out to be a missed call without notifying me. No sound for incoming messages be it regular message or whatsapp message or emails. I have used all my skills over the notification sound but in vain. It happens frequently but I just can’t say when it’ll ring and when it’ll mute. Hence making me glued to my mobile all the time. FYI I haven’t booted my phone at all. Just update ota.

Solution: If you have already made sure that the volume is in its maximum setting then try checking if the problem is caused by some form of corrupt temporary data in your phone. To do this you need to start your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition.

restart your phone normally then check if the issue still occurs.

If the problem persists then try checking if it is caused by an app installed in your phone. To do this you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps in your phone are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. Check if the issue still occurs in this mode. If the problem disappears then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

In case the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This is a highly recommended procedure if the issue occurs just right after a software update.

Note 4 No Sound After Getting Wet

Problem: After dropping into water, phone does not record or play audio (e.g. when i call someone, they cannot hear me and i cannot hear them). It doesn’t work when i switch to earphones either. Also, my phone is unable to read External SD card.

Solution: Water usually has this effect on electronic devices. If your phone does not have any sound after getting wet then it is most likely water damaged. I suggest you place your phone in a bag of rice first for at least 48 hours. Make sure to take out the back cover, battery, SIM, microSD when doing this.

Once the 48 hours have passed check if the issue still persists. If it does then backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Although the possibility of this problem being caused by a software issue is remote it is still best to check on this. After the reset you should check if the issue still occurs. If it does then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Volume Up Button Not Working

Problem: The volume up button wont work but the volume down will. At random times the phone will turn the ringer all the way up and the volume all the way up. And the only way to make it stop is by clicking the volume down button.

Solution: This problem is most likely caused by a faulty volume button. The only way to fix this is to open your phone then either clean the contacts between the button and the phone or replace the button assembly. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have this done there.

Note 4 Mic Not Working For Calls

Problem: Mic not working for phone calls or google voice/s voice. Works on speaker or using bluetooth. Tried cleaning mic hole with canned air, soft reset, booting into safe mode, force stopping sound/phone apps. Issue still ongoing.

Solution: Try opening the voice recorder app and record a sample voice clip using your phone microphone. Playback the recorded file then check if you can hear anything. If there is no sound then this issue could be hardware related. Do one more troubleshooting by backing up your phone data and do a factory reset. If after the reset the issue still occurs then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. You probably need to replace the microphone module of your phone.

Note 4 No Audio

Problem: I have no sound no ringtone, no microphone, anything audio related will not work or open. I can text but things are slow. I can also get online but video and audio will not work. Checked setting all volumes are up. I removed the battery and restarted, still nothing.

Solution: Do you have a Bluetooth speaker lying around? Try to connect your phone to the Bluetooth speaker and check if the sound works. If it does then this could be a hardware related problem. You should however check first if this issue is caused by a software problem by backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset. If after the reset the issue still persists then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 4 No Notifications On Speaker

Problem: Hi. First off thanks. My ringtones and notifications do not sound out over the speaker. They work over the Bluetooth when I am connected. The alarm works and I can play music out loud. When I check sounds I have them all at the highest level but even then I don’t hear the confirmation sound. If you could help I would really appreciate it

Solution: If the volume is already at its maximum level and the issue still occurs then try starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode you will be able to check if a third party app installed in your phone is causing the problem since only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. Check if the issue still occurs in this mode. If the sound works in this mode then find out what app is causing the problem and uninstall it. If the problem still occurs in this mode then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
