Quick fixes to common app issues with Galaxy Note 5 including “Skype has stopped” error

Note-5-app-problems

While the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 (#Samsung #GalaxyNote5) is a very powerful smartphone, it only takes one rogue app to bring it down. I already encountered a lot of issues wherein a minor app crash led to a system crash that left the phone useless for a few minutes. In this post, I will tackle some app-related issues including the error “Unfortunately, Skype has stopped.” Go through the short list below to see if I’ve included your concern:

If you have a different issue, try to go through our troubleshooting page. Find problems that are the same or similar to yours and use the solutions or troubleshooting procedures we suggested. Note 5 Voice mail app doesn’t show counter (Verizon)

Problem: The voice mail app on my desktop isn’t indicating that I have voice mail. The messaging app shows a little 1 if if I have a message. My last S5 showed me if I had a voice mail. Now I get a text telling me to log into visual voice mail but when I try, I get a message that visual voice mail is not available. Can I fix it so I get the little number on the vm icon on my desktop?

Suggestion: It sounds like your visual voice mail wasn’t properly setup. You should call Verizon so you’ll be guided properly in setting it up in your phone.

Set Note 5 to leave messages on server

Problem: How do I prevent email from being automatically deleted from the server once downloaded to the phone? The articles I have found pertain to the Note 3. Would be very grateful if you can help. Thanks!

Solution: You really have to set up the email on your phone and use POP3 instead of IMAP. This way, you can set it to leave messages on server. With POP3, email messages are being downloaded from the server to local storage and once you set your phone to leave them on server, they won’t be deleted even if you delete some on your phone.

Note 5 Contacts app shows contacts are being updated

Problem: Contact app is showing updating contacts continuously and no contacts are shown try every step you mentioned above, cleared cache, switched off and wiped cache priority everything tried. Please help.

Solution: Turn off the master sync. Disable Wi-Fi, and then clear the cache and the data of both the Contacts app and Contact Storage. After that, everything will work fine.

Certain area of the Note 5 screen not working

Problem: I have been having problems when I open any apps like Gmail and settings.  I open the apps and try to maneuver within the app but the back arrow in the apps do not work. I had a Note 3 and had no problems. If I open Gmail and go to the three bar menu to go to spam or update folders nothing happens. I just got this phone a week ago and sometimes it works but most of the time it doesn’t.

Solution: I actually addressed this problem last week. So, instead of parroting what I basically written in my previous post, try to follow the links below:

“Unfortunately, Skype has stopped” error

Problem: Skype is not working. Whenever I open the skype, a massage pops up written “Unfortunately, Skype has stopped.” I uninstalled it 3 to 4 times and re-installed it but it’s not working. Same massage pops up. What should I do now? All the others apps are working very nicely except Skype.

Suggestion: Contact Skype, seriously. It’s obviously an app problem. Maybe it has a conflict with the firmware of your device and only Skype can do something about it.

As a workaround, try uninstalling the Skype that’s currently installed in your phone and find the previous version and sideload it. Maybe that could work.

Note 5 reconfigures default apps

Problem: Randomly my phone will re-add all the default apps, and reconfigure all the default app folders to their default settings. It has happened three times in two weeks of owning this phone. I have tried soft reboots and the like, but still happening. Any clue what is going on?

Suggestion: Maybe it’s a glitch, a bug or a virus. We don’t know for sure and honestly, I’m a bit confused about your description. I don’t know what “default apps” mean to you but for me, it’s either you’re referring to pre-installed apps or apps that were set as defaults to open certain files or do certain tasks. I think the safe route to take in this situation is the master reset. Backup all your data first and follow these steps:

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy Note 5.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  3. When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  4. Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  6. Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  7. After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.

I hope this helps.
