It was recently suggested that T-Mobile might be looking to release the #BlackBerryPriv smartphone by the 26th of January. This has been confirmed today, so interested fans finally have a date to circle on their calendars.
The official confirmation came from the CEO of T-Mobile, John Legere, who gave away the news in his customary fashion on Twitter. There’s no word on the pricing, but we don’t think it will be any different from the $699 pricing that’s being asked by BlackBerry and other retailers in the U.S. right now.
The Priv has done surprisingly well in the U.S. and the company’s association with T-Mobile could go a long way in making it an appealing prospect to customers across the country. The fact that the carrier will offer the device through its easy monthly installment plans will further add to the appeal of this relatively expensive smartphone.
The BlackBerry Priv comes with a 5.4 inch Quad HD display, an 18-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front camera, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage (expandable), the hexa core Snapdragon 808 chipset, a 3,410 mAh battery and Android 5.1 Lollipop with an update to Marshmallow available soon.
Update: The CEO of BlackBerry, John Chen has mentioned that the Priv will launch via Sprint and Verizon soon too. He said that AT&T had a 60-day exclusivity on the smartphone, which has now ended, thus allowing other carriers to get in on the action.
