Samsung Galaxy S4 Screen Shuts Off Issue & Other Related Problems

The first thing you will notice about the #Samsung Galaxy #S4 is its gorgeous display. A lot of people will even say that it is the best feature of the device. The phone sports a 5 inch Super AMOLED display at 1080 x 1920 pixels and comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Using the Super AMOLED screen technology on this device allows the display to draw less battery power while providing vibrant colors on the screen.

S4 Screen Shuts Off

Problem: When I’ve got my (pre-installed) music app going and I try to change the song through the widget on my notification panel, my phone doesn’t recognize that i’m still active and my screen shuts off after 4-6 seconds even though my phone is set for a 30-second idle screen shutoff. It didn’t always do this, just the last month or two. It’s not a huge deal but is still very annoying.

Solution: There’s a possibility that this problem could be caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone which you should check first. To do this you should clear the cache and data of your stock messaging app. Follow this up by wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.

If you are still experiencing the same problem then the next thing to do is to check if a third party app you installed in your phone is causing the screen to shut off. To do this you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. Play a song using the stock music app then change the song using the widget. If the problem does not occur then it is most likely caused by an app you installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

There are cases when the problem still occurs even if your phone is in Safe Mode.If it does in this case then you need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset from the recovery mode.

S4 Lines Going Across Screen After Getting Wet

Problem: Wife recently dropped Samsung S4 phone into water. Immediately recovered it. Took out battery, blowed out and dried out best we could. Then used the hairdryer on the battery side to add some heat to dry out the rest. The problem we have is the screen went very dim and worked for a day or two. Now when you turn it on it has lines going across the screen and won’t boot up. As said earlier in the post we dried it out as fast as we could the best we could.  Any suggestions.  This is a business phone and is used all day. Thanks

Solution: There’s a possibility that the display of the phone or the board itself got damaged when it got wet. The problem with getting your phone wet is that sometimes the effects don’t show immediately. It may take days or even weeks before the issue occurs. In this case, your phone is getting lines on the screen.

The first thing that you need to do is to check if the issue occurs even in recovery mode. Start your phone in recovery mode then check if the lines are still visible on the screen or if you can see the menu. If the issue disappears in this mode then you can wipe the cache partition of your phone. Reboot your phone normally then check if the issue is resolved. If it isn’t then go back to the recovery mode and do a factory reset. Take not that you should only do this as a last resort as your phone data will be deleted in the process.

If however you cannot access the recovery mode then this could already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Screen Went Black With Rainbow Dots

Problem: Just a shot in the dark…. my s4 worked fine and then I hit power button to check time and screen started out black and then rainbow dots started to show up until screen was filled with them

Solution: Try to check first if this is caused by a glitch in the phone software. To do this you need to take out the phone battery as well as the microSD card if you have one installed. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out the RAM. Reinsert just the battery then turn on your phone. Check if the issue still occurs.

If the problem still persists then check if some form of corrupt data is causing this by wiping the cache partition of your phone from recovery mode.

Another factor that should not be overlook is the possibility that a third party app installed in your phone is causing the problem. To do this you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. If the problem disappears in this mode then it’s likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

One last troubleshooting step that you should consider is a factory reset from the recovery mode. You should only do this if you have recently made a backup of your phone data or if you don’t mind losing your data.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the issue then this may already be a hardware related problem. Bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Screen Won’t Work

Problem: My charger port broke got it replaced plugged the charger in it buzzed seemed it worked. Went to turn the phone on and the screen won’t work now, I’ve tried all the reset options I’ve seen and it’s still not working…any help would be appreciated.

Solution: Was the screen working before the charger port was replaced? If it was then this could already be a hardware related problem. Some connector cable may have gone lose when the charger port was replaced. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Screen Is Black

Problem: My galaxy s4 is not working. It is charged. Power is on. Screen is black then the keyboard comes on with a background picture that is in my gallery. There is no tool bar on the top. Nothing. Can’t get it to do anything. Then it goes black again. My friend just called me n it said I’m not available. Wtf? I took out the battery and replaced it. No change. Took out the Sims card n put it back. No change.

Solution: For this issue I recommend that you do a factory reset first. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this procedure. To backup your data connect the phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch running.

If after the factory reset the issue still occurs then this could already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Screen Goes Black Then Wallpaper Goes Back To Default

Problem: My s4 is giving me a multiple type of problems but the one irritating me the most is my home screen turning to default again and again. I have to set the wallpaper time and again. Whenever I open any site say facebook the screen goes black or white for a couple of seconds and the wallpaper turns back to the default  (blue background). This is getting on my nerves now. Right now I might have changed the wallpaper for the 20th time.

Solution: It looks like this problem could be caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone. To check if this is the case you need to start your phone in recovery mode then wipe the cache partition of your device.

If the issue persists then proceed with backing up your phone data then do a factory reset.
