There are however instances when issues concerning the text messaging feature of the phone can occur. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy Note 5 text lag issue & other related problems. Note 5 Text Lag
Problem: I have returned this device 3 times and all 3 devices have the exact same problem. The text lags for several seconds, sometimes minutes. Getting to the home screen also has a severe lag. Please help or I will be forced to return this phone also and chose a different phone.
Solution: The powerful hardware specs of this phone should be able to easily handle heavy apps smoothly, most especially text messaging apps. The problem here is that you are experiencing a lag when using your text messaging app and there is a considerable lag when going back to the home screen.
Since this issue occurred in three devices already then I suspect that a third party app that you installed is responsible for the problem. To check if this is the case you should start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while the apps you downloaded are disabled. Check if you are still having lag issues in this mode. If the problem does not occur then an app you installed could be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstal it.
There’s also a chance that you will still experience the lag problem even in Safe Mode. If this is the case then start your phone in recovery mode then choose the wipe cache partition option. This will delete the temporary data stored in your phone which could also cause this problem. Restart your phone normally then check if the problem still occurs.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
Note 5 Delay In Sending Text Message
Problem: i have a brand new note 5 that is verizon….my carrier is appalachian wireless in which you probably have never heard of. Mainly people in our area have it aka salyersville kentucky. It is a cdma carrier who shares towers with verizon. Ok my problem is everything works great EXCEPT when i send text it takes a good 30 seconds or more to send. And of course mms fail. i took my iphone 6+ sim out and put into my note 5. Let me mention my 6+ is also a verizon iphone. (no troubles)….very irritating.
Solution: If the issue disappears when another SIM is placed in the phone then the issue may either be with your SIM card or the network. Is the iPhone 6+ SIM that you inserted on the same network as the Note 5 SIM that you have? If they belong to different networks then the following factors listed below can cause the problem
- Weak signal: The iPhone 6+ SIM may be getting a good signal from its network while the Note 5 SIM is not getting a good signal from its network.
- Wrong settings: Sometimes problems in sending or receiving a text message can occur when the phone is using a specific network mode. Try switching between the different network modes using the original SIM of your Note 5 and see which one works best. The network modes to choose from are Global, LTE/CDMA, GSM/UMTS. Aside from this you should also check the APN setting your phone is using as a wrong setting could cause the MMS fail issue.
If the issue persists then you may have to get a replacement SIM.
Note 5 Lag In Messaging App
Problem: Ever since I got my note 5 the messaging app has been TERRIBLE. I do not have a special keyboard installed just the regular one, using the factory messaging app. It beyond has a lag time, it’s ridiculous!!! everything on the messaging app takes forever to load, when i go to type i cannot see what i’ve typed until literally 5-mins later because it freezes on every letter. I’m beyond upset that I got this phone because it’s been useless. Something should have been sent out to fix this already. Super Disappointing.
Solution: One of the primary for this lag is a corrupt data. This is what you should check first. To do this you need to clear the cache and data of the messaging app. Once this is done check if the problem still occurs.
If the lag still exists then proceed with starting your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition.
Another factor that can cause this problem is a third party app installed in your phone. To check if this is the case you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. You will notice that only the pre-installed apps will run in this mode while apps you downloaded are disabled making it easier to troubleshoot. If you don’t experience any lag in this mode then the problem is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I recommend that you do a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing this procedure.
Note 5 Keyboard Letters Don’t Respond
Problem: Keyboard, few letters don’t respond it began with L and now it’s A (samsung keyboard then Swift then google) I cleaned the cash it works for a minute then it stops back. This is happening with whatspp mainly
Solution: Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode then check if the problem disappears.
You should also check if the problem is caused by the WhatsApp app by uninstalling it then reinstalling an updated version from the Google Play Store.
If the problem still persists then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
Note 5 Not Receiving Text Messages
Problem: Recently I started not receiving any texts or phone calls for hours and hours at a time. Then a group of text messages will just pile in all at once. Doesn’t always happen but seems to be happening more often!
Solution: Check if your phone is getting good signal from the network. If the text messages arrive late then there’s a chance that you phone may not have a signal prior to the arrival. Determine of the problem occurs in a specific area or if it occurs in any area. If it occurs in only one specific area then there’s a chance that it is signal related.
If the problem occurs anywhere you are then this may be caused by a glitch in the phone software. Restarting your phone is one of the first steps that you should do. This resets your phone connection to the network and refreshes the phone software.
If this doesn’t work then start your phone in recovery mode and wipe its cache partition. Restart your phone then check if the problem still occurs.If it does then proceed with backing up your phone data and do a factory reset.
Note 5 Unable To Attach Picture In Text Message
Problem: Doesn’t send messages when pictures are attached. Always bragged how Galaxy was the best and always own a galaxy but lately I’m seriously considering making the jump to iPhone which my wife owns and she never has this problem only when she tries to send me a picture. Dissatisfied customer.
Related Problem: When texting all the sudden I am no longer able to attach a picture it goes through like it always did and then simply says “unable to attach”
Solution: Several other owners of this device have also been experiencing this same problem. The initial troubleshooting steps that you need to do is to clear the cache and data of the messaging app to eliminate the possibility that some form of corrupt data is causing the issue.
You should also try to attach the photo from the stock Gallery app and not from Google Photos. If this works then the issue is caused by a bug in the latest software update which should be resolved in the next update.
Another workaround to this issue is to use the Hangouts app instead of the stock messenger app.
