S5 Not Able To Receive Text Message

Problem: I have changed phone from iphone to new Samsung Galaxy S5 on 23/10/15. I have no problem sending text messages but it took a few weeks to realize that I don’t receive all the text messages.

Solution: Try to check if the text messages you are not receiving come from iPhone users. If this is the case then this is a known problem affecting those former iPhone users who switch to Android smartphones. What happens is that your friend’s with iPhone’s are sending you a text message using iMessage. Since Android doesn’t have iMessage you will not be receiving the message.

To resolve this issue you must deregister and turn off  your iMessage account connected to your number.

If you still have your iPhone then take out your SIM card from the S5 and transfer it back to your iPhone. Go to Settings – Tap Messages – Turn iMessage off – Go back to Settings – Tap FaceTime – Turn FaceTime off – Exit Settings.

If you don’t have your iPhone with you anymore than you will have to visit the Apple website (https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage) . You will need to enter your phone number then just follow the instructions provided on the website.

S5 Not Able To Receive Text Message From One Number

Problem: I’m not able to receive text from my friend it just started today we were able to text up till today

Solution: The first thing you need to check in cases like this where you are not receiving a text message from a specific number is the spam list of your phone. You may have accidentally included the number in the spam list.

If the number is not on the spam list then try to restart your phone as this may be caused by a temporary glitch in the phone software.

Check if the issue still persists. If it does then proceed with wiping the cache and data of your text messaging app. Sometimes some form of corrupt temporary data within the app itself can cause this issue so doing this procedure helps.

You should also verify if an app you installed is causing this problem. To do this you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the default apps (pre-installed apps) are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. This makes it easier for you to troubleshoot any app related issue.

If you can receive the text message of your friend in this mode then chances are an app may be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Finally, the network can also affect the way you receive a text message. Do you both belong to the same network? If you are on different networks then there  may be some network related lag that is happening. This usually occurs when a high number of text messages are being sent. The carriers will prioritize the sending and receiving of text messages within their own network before concentrating on other networks. If this is the case then you should try to check if the issue occurs at a later time.

S5 Text Messages Disappear

Problem: When I get a text message it pops up on my screen but if I actually go into the message app it won’t show the messages I have received or sent out.. and I have tried restarting it and and taking the battery out waiting 30 seconds and putting it back in but still nothing is showing… please help me.. thank you.

Solution: If you are using the stock messaging app then I suggest you try clearing its cache and data first. You can also follow this up by wiping the cache partition of your phone.

If the problem still persists then I suggest you start your phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then this may be caused by an app you downloaded in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstal it.

S5 Messages Not Responding

Problem: I cannot get any of the buttons to work on my messages.  I received a text and was able to respond, but can no longer open it once I click on the sender.  Cant access settings, or anything on the screen.  Just says messages isn’t responding, close it or wait.  I restarted several times and removed the battery as well.

Solution: This issue is most likely cause by some form of corrupt data in your messaging app. The first thing you need to do is to clear the cache and data of the messaging app.

If the problem persists then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.

Sometimes, a third party app installed in your phone can cause this type of issue. To check if this is the case you should start your phone in Safe Mode. If the problem does not occur in this mode then it’s most likely caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If however you are still getting the error message even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

S5 Group Text Message Not In Order

Problem: Along with 3 other friends, we send group texts (4 of us total). For the past 6 months, there has been no problem whatsoever sending and receiving to all of these friends when doing a group text. About 10 days ago, one of these friends changed providers (he’s now using Cricket). Since then, everytime he responds to a group text, I can see that he sent a text in the little status bar when it comes in, but, when I click on the group text, his text is like 15 to 20 texts back. For instance, if there are 20 group texts starting at 9am and its presently 3pm on the same day, and he sends a group text at 3pm, it goes all the way back to say 10am……..so instead of his recent/new text appearing as being new and the first and latest text to review, its like 15 to 20 back in the queue. Hopefully this makes sense? Neither of the other 2 guys in the group texts are having this problem…….and when I have my friend with the Cricket phone send me a direct text and not a group text, there is no problem. Any thoughts you could provide would be appreciated………thank you.

Solution: This issue is usually caused by an incorrect time and date setting in his phone. Have him go to his phone settings then have him make sure that Automatic Date and Time as well as Automatic time zone are checked.

If the issue still occurs then the best thing to do is to delete the group text message and start a new one.

S5 Can’t Reply To Text Messages

Problem: hi, I purchased a verizon samsung galaxy s5 on ebay about three months ago. I was able to send texts for the first week but afterwards it stopped. I’m able to receive texts but I can’t reply. I will really appreciate your help. Regards

Solution: Sometimes restarting your phone helps in this case. Turn off your phone then take out the battery. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges your phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then turn on your phone. Check if you can now reply to text messages.

If the problem still persists then proceed with clearing the cache and data of your messaging app. Once this is done check if you can reply to a text message.

If you still can’t reply to a text message then I suggest you wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.

One final troubleshooting step you should consider if the above fails is a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing this.
