S5 Black Screen Issue After Water Damage
Problem: Hello, My Samsung S5 has been water damaged. I stored the phone in rice for over two weeks and when I put the battery back in, the phone will turn on, make notification noises, and the notification light works. The screen however, remains black. I am trying to backup the photos from my phone onto to Windows 7 laptop. The laptop recognizes when my phone is plugged in via usb, however it says that there are no photos on the device. Is this a pc issue or a phone issue? and is there anyway to fix my phone screen? Thanks!
Solution: Have you browsed the different folders in your phone and checked if the photos are present? If you can’t find the photos then I suggest you download the Smart Switch software from the Samsung website and use this to check for any photo stored in your device. Once the photos are available you can use this software to make a backup copy.
Regarding the issue with your phone display it already appears that it got damaged when your phone got wet. You will need to replace this with a new one. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked if it can still be repaired or if it has to be replaced.
S5 Black Screen Issue
Problem: One day phone randomly rebooted during a call. This happened once more during a subsequent call. After this time, my phone screen had a purple tint and was much dimmer/darker than usual. So much so that when I turn my screen brightness down below about 10% my screen is black. Use to run it at about 50% and since this problem I am at about 100% to get to approximately the same level I am used to. Also when I do turn brightness up, purplish tint seems to lessen. Played with screen settings to no avail. Did soft reset and eventually a whole system reset which didn’t work. Then one day problem went away on its own (could tell by the extra bright screen). After about 3 weeks problem has reoccurred just like last time. Other than screen, the random reboots are happening about once every 3 or 4 days and their seems to be more of a lag when using apps or flipping between screens. Any help would be appreciated.
Solution: It appears that your phone has two separate issue. One is the random reboot issue and the other is the black screen issue. To begin the troubleshooting we will have to deal with the random reboot issue first.
In most cases where the phone reboots on its own the main cause is usually bad data or a corrupt software. If your phone has a microSD card installed then take this out first. If this card is corrupt it makes it difficult for the phone to access data stored in it and can cause the reboot problem.
Wipe the cache partition of your phone then observe if the reboot still occurs. If it does then backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
Moving on to the second issue, the factory reset done previously will resolve the black screen issue as long as it is caused by a software problem. If the issue still persists at this point then this may already be a hardware related problem. The connection between the display and the phone board may be loose or the display itself may already be defective. Either way, you have to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S5 Black Area On Screen
Problem: Hi, well my phone had started having this black area on the edge of the screen. At first I thought it was just a glitch for a few seconds. However after 2 days past by it go worse and the screen had these grey lines across it. Take into consideration that i’m only 14 and I do not wanna tell my parents about this problem. Anyway this happened when I was at school playing basketball for HPE (it’s a subject) and it was very hot outside. So i got back to play on my phone only to find out that part of my screen was black! Please HELP! Thanks for taking your time to read this and please respond as soon as you can.
Solution: Does your phone have a case installed? If it has then try removing the case as it may be pressing to hard on the display causing the black area to appear.
If your phone does not have any case installed then I suggest you proceed in checking if this problem is caused by a glitch in the phone software. To do this you have to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
If the factory reset fails to resolve the problem then this may already be a hardware related issue. The phone display may have been damaged by the heat. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have the phone display checked. This display may either be repaired or replaced.
S5 Screen Flickers
Problem: Screen flickers at low brightness. I did factory reset, lost about 1/3 of what I thought I had backed up, picked up new irritants that I can’t solve (like a constant notice that Gallery has a sign-in request at 12:33 PM that I can’t make go away) and after all that hassle, my phone still flickers at low brightness. And if I try to ignore it, the screen goes berserk with flickering.
Solution: Several owners of this model have also been complaining about this screen flickering issue when the brightness is set to low. In most cases this is caused by a software issue while in other cases it is the hardware that’s causing the problem.
Before doing any troubleshooting make sure your phone is running on the latest software version. Sometimes an update to the phone software can eliminate this type of issue.
Start by wiping the cache partition of your phone then check if the issue still persists. If it does then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset using the phone hardware keys.
Once the factory reset is complete check if the problem still persists.
If you are still experiencing the same problem then this may already be a hardware related issue.
S5 Screen Stopped Working
Problem: Hi, My screened stopped working. The blue light still flashes so I know that the phone itself is not dead. I took it to a repair shop and the repairman said that there was a tiny stress fracture. I’m not sure how this is possible, though, because I keep my phone in a protective case and in a separate compartment in my purse. I’ve didn’t drop it, and the screen protector wasn’t broken. I upgraded my phone January 2015, and have a year warranty on it. Thanks
Solution: It’s very likely that the display of your phone is damaged already if the tech inspected it. You could however check further if this is really the case by eliminating any software problems that may be causing this issue.
Connect your phone to a computer running on Smart Switch. Backup your phone data then restore your phone software.
If after the restore process the issue still persists then the display may already be damaged.
S5 Screen Is Black
Problem: The blue light comes on. I see the two buttons on bottom of screen to either side of home button. Other than that the screen is black. Hear some noises but that’s it. I tried some of the troubleshooting steps you listed but nothing working yet. Thank you for any help you can provide
Solution: If the troubleshooting steps we provided for this type of issue fails to resolve the problem then this may already be a hardware issue possibly caused by a defective display. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
