One of the main reasons why a lot of people buy Samsung smartphones is because of the Super AMOLED display that it uses. This type of display provides brilliant colors and high definition images that make the phone suitable for all sorts of multimedia content. The #Samsung Galaxy #S4 for example which was released in 2013 uses this type of display. Although Super AMOLED is one of the best types of display available on a smartphone it doesn’t mean that display related issues won’t occur.

S4 Flickering Screen
Problem: My Samsung S4 19505 was purchased in August 2015 and about a week later it fell about 6″ facedown onto a kitchen bench. The screen had a black line across it and half went green and couldn’t be read. As it wasn’t a warranty claim I purchased a new screen and digitiser and replaced it. It worked fine until about 6 weeks ago when the screen started flickering and almost appeared to have something over it that makes it very hard to read. Sometimes it clears up but will then revert back to the flickering. I looked on Google and it said to to a data backup and then do a hard reset which I have done to restore factory settings but it has made no difference, I am getting so frustrated with it I am almost ready to throw it out. Can you please offer any suggestions Cheers. ps The Android Version is 4.4.2 but I couldn’t see that on the list.
Solution: Since you already performed a factory reset then we could already rule out any software related issues that could cause this problem. The most likely reason why this is happening is due to a hardware malfunction.
The first thing to suspect in this case is that the display you bought may be fault already. It could also be due to a loose connection between the display and the phone motherboard. If this is the case then you will have to open your phone again and check if the connections are properly seated. You may also have to try using another screen and digitizer to check if the problem is with the screen itself.
Another factor that could cause this issue, although it’s a slim possibility, is that some other component inside your phone could have been affected by the drop. If this is the case then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S4 No Display After Replacing Screen
Problem: I broke the lcd screen on my samsung. I had bought a replacement digitizer and tried to do it myself. It was easy but I cannot see the screen when i try to turn it on.
Solution: Try charging your phone first using its wall charger for at least 20 minutes. This allows you to verify if the problem is power related. After the 20 minutes have passed try to turn on your phone.
If your phone still does not turn on then this problem could be related to the screen replacement. If you performed this procedure yourself then open your phone again and check the connections. Sometimes there may be a loose connection somewhere that could cause this problem. There’s also the possibility that the display you bought could be defective.
The best way to proceed in this case is to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S4 No Display
Problem: my screen will not light up. I can get it to power on, I can hear the whole start up, my alarm and everything works but I can not get any display.
Solution: I suggest you connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer running on Smart Switch or Kies. If your phone can be detected then backup your phone data. Try to restore your phone software after backing up your data.
If there is still nothing on the display after the factory reset then this issue could be caused by a defective display or a loose connection between your display and the phone’s main board.
I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked,
S4 Screen Unresponsive
Problem: screen is unresponsive. I have tried taking the battery out multiple times and holding the power button for 2 minutes. the phone will come on the buttons work but the screen will not respond. HELP.
Solution: Usually if the screen is unresponsive this is caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone. See if you can access the recovery mode of your device. If you can then I suggest you wipe the cache partition of your phone. This clears out any temporary data stored in your phone which if corrupt can cause this problem.
If the issue persists then backup your phone data ( I suggest using Kies or Smart Switch) then perform a factory reset in recovery mode.
If after the factory reset the issue still persists or if your phone does not enter recovery mode then it’s very likely that the digitizer of your phone may already be damaged. If this is the case then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S4 Screen Cracked Black Screen
Problem: My screen is cracked and I had phone in my pocket.. I heard what sounded like a ring tone but had never heard it before.. Took phone out and it was black screen.. It will turn on and volume buttons work and a blue led blinks.. It also make a notification tone repeatedly.
Solution: The display of your phone is already defective most likely due to the crack. Replacing your phone display will resolve this issue. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have your phone display checked and replaced.
S4 Apps Missing Crashing After Screen Replacement
Problem: Hello droid guy and thank you for the effort you are doing here my S4 screen was broken so i replaced it with a new one, since then almost all of my apps is missing or crashing. I can’t open any or send text messages however i still can access the messaging board. I constantly get error messages saying ” this app won’t work unless you have google play services which is missing from your phone” or “unfortunately google play services have stopped, get google play services”. My gmail doesn’t exist in accounts and i can’t add it or add another one because google isn’t listed in the accounts.
options I’ve tried so far:
- soft reset
- clear cache for google play store
- clear data for google play store
- clear data for google play services.
- reset app preferences
- disable/enable google store and services.
- disable/enable download manager.
- starting in safe mode and do the same previous processes.
- wipe cache partition in recovery mode.
I appreciate any help you can give before i go to the last option i have been avoiding and do a factory reset. Thanks a million
Solution: The best thing that you should do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
If the factory reset fails to resolve the problem and if this started right after you replaced your phone display then try to retrace the steps you performed when replacing the display. Open your phone and see if all connections (especially between the display and main board are secure). If possible, try using a different display and check if the issue still persists.
