Samsung Galaxy S4 Does Not Turn On

One reason why the #Samsung Galaxy #S4 is still a popular device despite being  released more than 2 years ago is that it  still has quite a decent hardware even by today’s standards. It can smoothly run any app available in the Google Play Store, except of course for some of the HD games. It is also available at a discounted price right now compared to when it was released a few years back.

S4 Does Not Turn On

Problem: I was having trouble with power up. I think my lock button is bad. I pulled out the battery and tried all the different ways to power up without the lock key. I plugged it into charge to try a hard start up. now when I plug in the light doesn’t turn on, and I tried my wireless charger, still nothing. when I put the battery in it vibes and shows the galaxy s4 logo, but I can not get past that.

Solution: If you suspect that the power button is defective then you need to have this replaced. It’s going to be quite impossible to turn on your phone with a busted power button. You should however check first if there are any other causes to this problem.

Try to start you phone in recovery mode and see if it enters recovery. If it does then you have the option to wipe the cache partition or do a factory reset. Take note that if you do a factory reset all the data stored in your phone will be erased. You should only consider this procedure if you have recently made a backup of your phone data.

If you can’t access the recovery mode then try connecting your phone to a computer running on Kies. If your phone can be detected then backup your data then attempt to restore your phone to its original factory condition.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have the power button replaced.

S4 Does Not Turn On Goes To Black Screen

Problem: I was using facebook messenger with my browser open behind it, I suddenly started noticing messages coming up that google apps has stopped working, then another app, and another app. I ignored them and tried to finish my message until my phone just suddenly shut off. I tried booting and nothing happened so I pulled out my battery then put it back in, booted it and it started upgrading and then the screen went black so I repeated my steps pull the battery out and boot again, it carried on upgrading and the screen went black. I repeated that and this time is said something like optimizing apps or something and the screen went black so I repeated that. Now nothing happen on boot. The screen defo works, I held down the vol down, power and home button once and it asked if I want to use a custom os so I canceled with the vol down button. BUT, When I boot normally, try recovery mode or plug the charger in, it vibrates and the screen stays black, HELP? Its really freaking me out.

Solution: Try taking out your phone battery and microSD card if one is installed then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. Reinsert just the battery then turn on your phone. If your phone does not turn on then connect it to its wall charger for at least 20 minutes then try turning it on again.  If the problem persists then attempt to enter the recovery mode then wipe the cache partition of your phone.

If you can’t access the recovery mode then connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer running on Kies. Press the power button of your phone then check if Kies can detect your phone. If it can be detected then backup your phone data then check if you can update your phone software.

If the problem persists then your phone may already be bricked. If this is the case then you have to flash your phone using Odin. Instructions on how to perform this procedure can be found at several of the popular online Android forums.

S4 Does Not Turn Back On

Problem: So sometimes my phone has a random glitch that makes it so my screen won’t turn off when I hit the power button, so to fix it, I’ll just take the battery put, put it back in, and then start it back up and then it stops. But this time after I took the battery out, it wouldn’t turn back on. My phone was fully charged too. And the weird thing is that my phone isn’t responding to the power button at all now, but rather, right when I put the battery in, it will start to boot up on its own and will only go to the “Galaxy s4” logo, and then it will shut off. Do you know what could cause this? I would really appreciate the help.

Solution: This issue may be caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone. The first thing you need to do is to remove the battery and microSD card if one is installed. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges your phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then attempt to turn on your phone.

If your phone is still stuck on the Samsung logo then try to access the recovery mode and wipe the cache partition of your phone. This clears your phone of any temporary data which if corrupt can cause this issue.

If after wiping the cache partition of your phone the problem still persists then you should consider doing a factory reset using the hardware keys. Take note that this will delete all of the data stored in your phone so only do this as a last resort.

S4 Does Not Charge Does Not Turn On

Problem: I dont know what version it is as far as lolipop marshmallow ect, it is about a year old.It will not charge and when i try to turn it on it comes on a second or two and goes off .it wont even do that unless I take the battery out  and put back in.

Solution: The reason why your phone does not turn on it probably because the battery has run out of charge. Try to use a different USB cord and wall charger when charging your phone. You should also check the charging port of your phone for any signs of dirt or debris. Clean it if necessary using a cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

There’s also the possibility that your phone battery may already be defective. If this is the case then you should try using a new battery on your phone.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then this may already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Broken Power Button Does Not Turn On

Problem: My Galaxy S4 has a broken power button and I cannot get it to turn on. I have tried literally everything, all the tricks like plugging it in and taking the battery out really fast and all the other tricks I have found online. The button still clicks, but even when the device was powered on the button would not even work to make the screen go black. The furthest I have got in trying to power the phone on is a black screen with white letters that says Samsung Galaxy, looks like it is about to power on, but then it turns off after a second or so. I have also tried plugging it into a computer. Please let me know if there is anything else I can try to get this device on cause I am very desperate!

Solution: If you suspect the power button to be defective then this has to be replaced at an authorized service center so that your phone can work properly again. Before bringing your phone in for repairs you should check first if this problem is software related by trying to wipe the cache partition of your phone. You should also consider doing a factory reset. Take note that this will delete the data stored in your phone so do this if you have made a backup of your phone data.

S4 Turns On For 1 Second Then Turns Off

Problem: hi, my s4 has recently had an LCD replaced but the issue i have now was before the screen needing replaced just not as bad as it is now. my battery was on about 40% when it switched off, usually a simply battery pull would rectify this and on some occasions i would need to charge it for a while before it switched on but usually fine after the battery pull alone. this time after a dozen battery pulls, periods of charging it will switch on for 1 second and switch off. on the odd occasion i get an empty battery icon appear on the screen but usually the start up screen appears and vanishes in a second. i took it back to the guy who changed the lcd, he said it could be my charging port but it wasn’t as a working replacement didn’t work on mine but my port worked on another handset, have also tried a new battery. still no luck, please help!

Solution: This could be a software related problem. Try taking out the battery then press and hold the power button for a minute. Reinsert the battery then access the recovery mode when starting your phone. Wipe the cache partition of your device. If the problem persists then you should consider doing a factory reset using the hardware keys. Take note that this deletes your phone data so only do this as a last resort.
