New report claims that Lenovo, Xiaomi and ZTE are developing their own mobile chips

ARM Processor - Xiaomi

With companies like #Samsung launching their own mobile SoCs for their devices, it was long rumored that companies like #Xiaomi might also want to get into the mix. A new report now mentions that companies like #Lenovo, #ZTE as well as Xiaomi will be releasing ARM based chipsets sometime soon.

This is a logical move and something that makes sense considering how Qualcomm and MediaTek chipsets don’t allow manufacturers the control and power that they require. That being said, it certainly won’t be an easy task to have a custom designed mobile SoC and will take a lot in the R&D department from the companies. Keeping all that in mind, let’s put this report in the “maybe” pile.

Xiaomi is said to have partnered with Leadcore Technology to co-launch custom SoCs for the range of 2016 Xiaomi devices, so things could be heating up pretty quickly in the mobile chipset arena. We’re awaiting further details from the source. What do you make of this development?
