I dropped my cell in the toilet. It was only in there for a few seconds. I took it home immediately and put it in rice. I did not touch it for 3 days. I tried to turn it on and it would not. I plugged it into the charger and I got a lightning bolt on a battery, then it turned green and said that it was at 100%. I hit the power button and it came on. I shuts off immediately when I unplug it. I put it away for few days. I got it out last night and plugged it in. It updated 20 apps. I received all my messages. It seems to work when it is plugged in.
However, it will not stay on. I brought it to work thinking that it would work when I plug it in but it’s not able to boot up today =(

Solution: Hi Tracy. Unlike its predecessor, the Galaxy S5, your S6 is not IP67 certified, which means that even if it was only submerged in water for a moment it might already be fatal for this device. An IP67 certified electronic device can be dropped in water for up to 1 meter for 30 minutes without any problems. The S6 series does not have this extra protection so your phone right now might really be partially dead. There’s no way to know for sure what components may have failed unless a thorough physical check is done. Your best course of action right now is to let a professional handle the issue. Bring the phone to a local electronics shop to open, clean, and hopefully repair it. Better still, go to a Samsung store and have them fix it for you.
Water damage voids the standard warranty so asking for a free repair or replacement is out of the question.

At first my phone started flashing between Netflix (I was using) and a Samsung Gear app (I’ve never opened before) It started making unfamiliar beeping noises, battery life jumped from 50% to 10% and then went down all the way to 0% in 30 seconds. finally got it to turn on, screen froze, finally turned it back off, after an hour I was able to turn it on but I can’t open any apps because it said the battery was too hot. Left it off for 2 more hours, still won’t open apps and it won’t charge and the error goes back and forth between saying the battery is either too hot or too cold to charge. — Anna
Solution: Hi Anna. Your problem can have either a software or hardware cause so your first task is to identify which of the two is the reason for the troubles. Power management in a smartphone is done by the operating system. If there’s a software issue involved, or if the symptoms you mentioned here occurred from out of the blue or after an update, doing a factory reset may be an effective solution. Here are the steps to do a factory reset on your S6:
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
- When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
- Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
- Press the Volume Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
- After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
If nothing changes after doing a factory reset, you may have a hardware malfunction behind the problem. Make sure to check that there’s no dirt or lint blocking the charging port and try to charge again. Try cleaning the charging port before charging again.
Another possible reason why you are unable to charge normally can be water- or liquid-damage. If your phone has never seen water, or if you’re positive that the internal components were never exposed to moisture, you can disregard this.
Sometimes, a smartphone’s internal thermometer may stop working properly, causing the phone to issue incorrect readings. Unfortunately, there’s no way to fix the sensor on an average user’s level. You have to contact Samsung for a repair or replacement request.
Lastly, the battery may no longer be working properly. Since there’s no way you can replace the battery yourself without voiding the warranty, try calling Samsung or go to the relevant party (carrier or retail store) to take care of it.
My Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has been having issues since purchasing where at first it would constantly check for viruses and give me warnings and I would have to restart it multiple times a day. I then updated it and it stopped doing this. However, it began restarting itself randomly and freezing. This would be both when using the phone and when it was not being touched.
I tried a factory restart and this did not fix the problem. I then sent it away to be assessed by Samsung and there was no fault found and no hardware issue. The next day after it was returned and I restored my backed up data it rebooted itself 3 times. I followed your instructions of clearing the cache partition and this minimized the frequency of the freezing and restarting to every couple of days instead of everyday.
It’s still really frustrating and I was wondering if this sounds like a software or hardware issue and how I can permanently fix the phone. Thanks heaps guys! — Abby
Solution: Hi Abby. Try booting the phone in safe mode for a few days and observe how it works. Safe mode prevents third party apps from running so if any of your installed apps is the cause, the symptoms you describe should not occur. You then need to uninstall apps until you have eliminated the cause. To boot in safe mode, just follow the steps:
- Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 20 to 30 seconds.
- Once you see the Samsung logo, release the Power key immediately but continue pressing the Volume Down key.
- Your phone should continue booting up and you will be prompted to unlock your phone as usual.
- You will know if the phone successfully booted in safe mode if the text “Safe mode” is displayed at the lower-left corner of the screen.
I receive messages saying an update is available. I tell it to continue with the update. Phone downloads over 600MB of data, during which it displays a message saying do not remove from Wi-Fi. Once the download is complete, it calls for a restart. During the restart, it shows “updating” message before reboot. Then it says “update failed” and continues to boot. Once it boots, an AT&T pages displays that the updated was unsuccessful, that it was interrupted. I took the phone to AT&T, the store people were unable to get the update done. I called AT&T tech support, who went through my phone remotely, and tried unsuccessfully to update my phone. THEY say it must be a Samsung issue, and to take it to Best Buy and let them look at it. Unfortunately, our nearest Best Buy store is about 80 miles away. — Dan
Solution: Hi Dan. Have you tried updating the phone using Kies? It’s the next best alternative if over-the-air update is not possible. Make sure to download the correct Kies version from this page.
If Kies update won’t work, consider getting a phone replacement from Samsung.
Hi, I have an assortment of problems which may or may not be related to each other. I have split them in two as the problems seem to be related.
1) All of these problems will occur simultaneously. Started after a Facebook call with a friend. My phone makes a ringing sound (not as incoming call) and say that dock is connected. I do not own a dock. It will also sometimes take control of my apps, switching between screens. I did a factory reset and the problem disappeared only to come back today, two days later.
2) Unable to charge phone. I cannot charge my phone using the port, I’ve tried 5 different chargers. However, wireless charging works, so I assume the problem lies in the port. I also get the popup saying that Power Sharing is turned on and the phone will continue to discharge even if no receiving device is connected. I tried to disable the power sharing app when my phone was booted in safe mode, but it was not possible. Also the Gear VR started on its own at some point, so I disabled/uninstalled as many of the Gear VR apps as possible.
Any help would be appreciated as I would have to send my phone to Norway for service.

Solution: Hi Ada. “dock is connected” issue is common among Samsung smartphones although the reasons vary per case. For some, the cause is a dirty or defective charging port, while for others, apps or software are to blame.
Since you’ve discovered yourself that the charging port is no longer working properly, the best thing that you can do at this time is to have the phone replaced, or have the charging port fixed by a professional.
The two issues you raised here may be related to the defective charging port so make sure you take care of that problem first.
You can also try doing the basic software troubleshooting like booting the phone in safe mode to see if an app is causing the problem, or perform a factory reset to verify if the phone runs a corrupted firmware.
