Solutions To Samsung Galaxy S5 Apps Crashing & Other Related Issues

S5 App Widgets Stopped Working

Problem: Hello Droid Guy, I love your site and this is my first time I’ve ever had a problem that I couldn’t solve. A few days ago all of my widgets stopped uploading–the clock, AIX weather, even twitter!  AIX says “”Loading AIX…”” where the widget should be and twitter is just blank white. I have tried restarting, dragging the widgets to trash and reapplying them, even redownloading the apps, no luck. Running 4.4.4 Samsung S5 on AT&T. I got a new SD card about 2 wks ago but the apps aren’t on the card, this doesn’t seem to be the issue.  Unified Daemon looks to be on and running used by WEATHERCLOCKSERVICE.  I tried turning this on and then off but no changes. Any advice? Thanks so much!

Solution: Do you still have your old microSD card? If you have then try inserting it back ( as long as you haven’t formatted it or deleted its contents). If your widgets work with the old microSD card then this may be a data related issue. The widgets are accessing the data stored in the microSD card. Since the data is not present in the new microSD card then the widgets will not load.

To check if this is the case you should uninstall all of the affected apps and widgets. Once everything is uninstalled wipe the cache partition of your phone.

Download the same apps from the Google Play Store then check if the widgets work.

S5 Apps Crashing

Problem: My apps will crash intermittently, while using. Facebook is notorious for it now their links open up into a ‘new tab’ as such. The tab will often freeze, then shut the app down and pop up with a message say “”Sorry Facebook has stopped working”” then gives me the option to select WAIT, CLOSE or OK. This isn’t just Facebook, (although 75% of the time i’m on Facebook it will crash) other apps that crash are Chrome, Instagram, BuzzFeed, and even the preinstalled, ‘came with the phone’ app ’email’ will crash at random times. My phone is SO slow too. I cant recall if the crashing and the lag coincided with the update 5.0 that I currently have but it sure is giving me the shits. I always manually close my apps after using them. I like to describe myself as ‘tech savvy’, but i’m growing increasingly frustrated with the issue. I have plenty of memory and have hardly any apps (I have already given you about 80% of the apps I’ve downloaded. The others are banking apps, eBay, torch and Pinterest other apps I use are pre-installed with the phone i.e. calendar, youtube camera, music, maps etc.

Solution: It looks like this problem may be caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone. In cases like this you should try to wipe the cache partition of your phone first.

If the problems persist then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 App Crashes With Java Exception Error

Problem: When I updated my phone an app stopped working saying java error conception I’m trying to fix it I don’t know how.

Solution: This is caused by a java related error in one of your apps. Find out what app has this error and clear it cache and data. If the problem persists then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone.

If you can’t find what app is causing this problem or if the problem still persists even after following the troubleshooting steps listed above then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Apps Asking For Validation After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hello, After upgrading my phone with the new lollipop I’ve noticed that certain apps are having me redo security for them. For example my Chase app. When I first downloaded it, it sent a text to my phone with a code and had me enter it to verify the phone. I thought this should be a one time thing but after the update this app and others say that they do not recognize my device and I have to validate it all over again. Any advice would be great!!

Solution: This is probably because the security certificate of your phone changed during the Lollipop update. This usually happens when a device gets a major software update such as when upgrading from KitKat to Lollipop.

S5 Internet Apps Crashing

Problem: Please help! I have had my phone for about a year and never had an issue.. however now I am having a lot of issues:

1) I always have a home screen background picture of my son but all the time now the screen goes black and reverts back to the default background picture.. very annoying.

2) lately my Samsung keyboard has been minimizing by itself.. while I’m typing or right when I bring it up it just goes away!

3) my Internet and sometimes Facebook has been crashing.. more often internet.. for example as I was scrolling on your page now it closed itself like 5 times…

Please any help would be greatly appreciated because I’d love to break my phone in half right now! Thanks!

Solution: Although your phone has a lot of issues the good thing is that they appear to be software related. What you need to do to resolve these with one troubleshooting step is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete make sure to update your phone apps before using.

S5 Prompting To Install Apps

Problem: When I go to connect to the Internet from my phone, Samsung 5, I get connected to random apps to install vs going to the internet.  I then need to close the app install screen to get to the internet.  I also have issues with contest entry’s coming up when I’m trying to connect as well….it’s driving me NUTS!  If you could help, I would SO appreciate it!   THANK YOU!

Solution: It’s possible that your phone may be infected with some form of malware. If you don’t have a security software installed in your phone I suggest you download one from the Google Play Store (choose the popular brands) then have it run a scan on your phone. Check if it can remove the malware.

If you want to be sure of removing any malware in your phone then you should backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
