S4 Battery Drain Heating Issues After Software Update
Problem: Since the recent OS update my phone has not been working right…I’ve tried everything. The battery drain issues, wifi issues, heating up while browsing and I can not change my text messages screen back to black like it was before the updates, it will not let me. Help!
Solution: One of the most common causes of the battery drain issue after a software update is that apps running on your phone are not optimized yet for the new software. What you should do first is to check which app is using up the most battery life. You can do this by going to the battery section of your phone settings. Once you spot an app that you are not using but is consuming a lot of power you can either close the app, check if it has an update, or uninstall it.
The heating issue you are experiencing could be due to some service or feature running in your phone. Check if you have Wi-Fi, mobile data, Location, or Bluetooth active on your phone and disable them. Check if your phone still heats up.
As a last resort you should consider doing a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before proceeding.
S4 Apps Crashing After Software Update
Problem: Hi there, I’ve been having some issues with my Samsung Galaxy S4 and I really hope you can help. I updated my phone to the lollipop 5.0.1 this morning the 27th of September 2015 and after everything was done and before I even opened anything, I got the first error message saying that “Google Play Services have stopped” and to report the crash which I did. This happened several times and I reported every time. After that I tried to open Google Play store and it did open up until I tried to download an app and then it kept crashing. The same thing happened with all of my games which makes me kind of sad because I love playing games on my phone. Most of my apps seem to be doing the same thing and I performed a soft reset by pulling out my battery which did absolutely nothing. I also cleared my app data on each app which also did nothing. Also everytime i plug my earphones in I get an error message saying “Recommended apps has stopped working” or something along those lines .Please help you guys. I really really need to get this problem a out of the way. Thank you so much.
Solution: It looks like most of your apps are crashing after the software update. This is probably caused by the data from the old software version that has not been completely removed from your phone. Ideally this should have been taken out during the update process but for some reason has been left behind and is now causing a conflict with the new software version resulting in these issues. I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset using the hardware keys.
S4 Home & Back Button Not Working After Software Update
Problem: Since the upgrade to 5.0.1,I haven’t been able to use the back and menu buttons (soft keys). I’ve tried many things, but none of them seems to work. As a workaround I managed to enable the accessibility icon, but I’d like to be able to use these buttons (left and right to the home button) as they are very useful. Thanks
Solution: When you mentioned that you tried everything I assumed you have already started your phone in Safe Mode to check if the issue is caused by third party apps, wiped the cache partition of your phone, and do a factory reset.
One other thing you should check is if your phone has an exchange/activesync account setup. If it has then try removing this account first. If your home button and back button works after this then a security policy may be conflicting with the new software version.
You may want to check if there are any new updates for your phone apps as well as your phone software that comes with a fix that addresses this issue.
S4 Screen Times Out After Software Update
Problem: Ever since I updated my phone (first to KitKat, now to Lollipop), my screen times out on the screen lock view and during phone calls, regardless of whether I am interacting with it. For example, if I am interacting with an automated answering system and I need to enter a long string of numbers, the screen will time out and go dark just moments after I have hit a key in the sequence. Likewise, if I mess up my screen passcode, it will often time out during my second try, while my finger is in the middle of swiping across dots.
Solution: This issue could be caused by some form of corrupt data. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone first. If the problem persists then backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
S4 Not Registered To Network After Software Update
Problem: I did an update recently in august since then the phone won’t boot up past the verizon red logo, but if i take the simcard out it will boot up, but then when i insert the simcard it says not registered to a network.
Solution: Take out the SIM card first and carefully inspect it for physical damages. You should also inspect SIM card slot of your phone for any signs of dirt or debris. Clean it if necessary using a can of compressed air.
Try replacing your SIM card with a new one as the current SIM that you have may already be faulty.
As a last resort you should backup your phone data and do a factory reset to eliminate any software related problems that may be causing this issue.
S4 Saved Photos From Text Not In Gallery After Software Update
Problem: Prior to installing lollipop If someone texted me a photo I could “save attachment” and it would automatically go to gallery. Since the upgrade I still have the save attachment option but it doesn’t go to gallery. I don’t know how to get to it. The one way I can get it is by doing a screen capture.
Solution: Try using another messaging apps such as Hangouts. Save the picture from a message then check if you can access it from the gallery. If the picture can be accessed then the problem may be with the messaging app you are using right now or a third party app may be preventing the app from saving the picture properly.
Try clearing the cache and data of your messaging app first and see if this resolves the problem.
If the issue persists then start your phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue persists. If it doesn’t then a third party app may be the culprit behind this. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If however the photos still can’t be found in your phone gallery even if you use the Hangouts app then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
