Note 4 Freezes Constantly

Problem: The soft keys doesn’t light up, the screen go blank all the time and the power key cannot get it back on I have to do a battery pull. It freezes constantly. It shuts on and off at times by itself, it is super slow, it gets heated until I changed the battery. Sometimes the apps don’t work.

Solution: It look like your phone has several issues occurring at the same time. This may be caused by a corrupt cached data or a corrupted software. The best way to proceed in this case is to backup your phone data and do a factory reset. Once the reset has completed try to check your phone and see if it still freezes. If it still does then take out the microSD card of your phone if you have one installed since a faulty microSD card can usually cause a phone to freeze or lag.

Note 4 Apps Freeze After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hi there I have a note 4 and just recently upgraded to 5.0.1. Since then several apps freeze and require closing. (Facebook is having the most problems) We have a 2nd note that was also upgraded doing exactly the same thing. Any ideas?

Related Problem: Hello, My note keeps freezing and coming up with a system not responding error message after the most recent android lollipop 5.1.1 update. I am the only person with this issue? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Solution: If this issue occured right after you updated the phone software then it is most likely caused by old software data that is still present in your device. This data which normally should have been removed during the update process  for one reason or another is still in your phone. This conflicts with the new software version and is now causing this app freezing problem.

The first thing that you should do is to wipe the cache partition of your phone then check if the issue persists.

If you are still experiencing the same problem then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

Note 4 Screen Freezes Randomly

Problem: The screen decides to freeze while I’m doing something and then it shows me the home screen wallpaper and after that it locks itself automatically.

Solution: This may be an issue with the phone software. Wipe the cache partition of your phone to clear out its temporary data. If this temporary data is corrupt then it may be the one causing the problem. Check if the problem disappears.

If the issue still persists then verify if a third party app installed in your phone is causing the problem by starting your phone in Safe Mode. If your screen does not freeze in this mode then the problem may be caused by an app you installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the problem then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset using the hardware keys.

Note 4 Lags When Waking The Screen

Problem: I recently bought a Galaxy Note 4. The phone works perfectly except for one annoying issue. When the phone sits idle for 5 to 10 minutes or more, once I press the button to view the time or make a phone call. There is a 6 second delay until you can view the screen. How can I fix this? My co-worker has the same phone, but his opens with no lag time. Please assist.

Solution: Try wiping the cache partition of your phone first. This clears out the temporary data stored by your device which if it accumulates to a large size could cause the delay.

You should also check if an app you installed  is causing the problem by starting your phone in Safe Mode. Once in this mode see if the problem still occurs. If it doesn’t then a third party app installed in your phone is most likely causing this problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Note 4 Lagging Issues

Problem: I’m new to the Android system being a former IPhone user for 8 years, so, I need help. My current problems are..1 – texting messages are lagging on keyboard & sending 2 – chrome typing also lags & when the page finally comes up it freezes & lags when I’m scrolling pages 3 – I’m unsure as to what the settings should be for optimal safety 4 – it seems there are useless & duplicate apps preloaded on my phone so I’m unsure as to which to keep & if I’ve set up multiple systems for phone backup & security 5 – I don’t understand the RAM usage how to clear it or shut running systems down. The more I research the more confused I get!

Solution: Let’s start with the lag issue you experience when texting. This may be caused by the cached data in the messaging app. In most cases clearing the cache helps so what you should do is to clear the cache and data of your messaging app. The same goes for your Chrome browser, you should clear its cache and data.

If there is still no improvement then the next step is to wipe the cache partition of your phone. If your phone has some corrupt temporary data stored then this procedure will most likely resolve the problem.

If you are still experiencing a lag issue at this point then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Regarding the setting for optimum safety you should at least activate the lock screen feature of your phone. To prevent any malware from infecting your phone you should only download apps from the GooglePlay Store. Don’t click on the pop up ads that appear in your browser when opening websites.

As far as the management of the RAM goes, the Android platform does a good job of managing this without any outside help. You can however free up some RAM space by closing the apps that are open and running by tapping on the rectangle button on the left side of the physical home button. This will bring up a list of the running apps. You can swipe on the apps to close them.

Note 4 Lag After Lollipop Update

Problem: There was a update for note 4 last month i did system up which 5.1.1 was last up date now my cell work good but i get lot lag on home screen or to unlock my cell n if i play game if goes to lock mode with out me putting it on lock then i try unlock it wont open with finger swipe.it happen at less 2 to 3 time a day b4 this update it ran good.what too do n tech geek told me this happens to all sprint note 4. With this last updated.

Solution: Have you tried doing a factory reset yet? If you haven’t then I strongly suggest that you do it as it resolves most of the lag issues experienced after a software update. Of course you should make sure to backup your phone data first before performing this procedure.

Note 4 Lags And Freezes

Problem: I have terrible problems with lagging and freezing even when playing games which take minimal memory.  I am not happy about this problem.  Otherwise I like the phone but the lag and freezing are terrible.  I’ve tried a soft reset. I need help with this issue. Not happy with the note 4 because of this one issue.

Solution: Do you have a microSD card installed in your phone? If you have then take it out. Check if the lag and freezing problem still occurs. If it does then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone.

If the problem still persists then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

  1. I appreciate that you give free advice to owners of Android phones, that is great for new users. But after having read your solutions to a wide range of issues, the solution is always the same… First – wipe your cache, second – factory reset your phone. If I wanted to factory reset my phone I wouldn’t go through the process of reaching out to you and trying to figure out what was actually causing the problem in the first place.
I’m not trying to criticize what you are doing, I just wish you had someone there who could troubleshoot without using the broad brush of wiping your phone, which many – myself included – look at as being a last resort. Like replacing your engine because it doesn’t start.
    Thank You for listening.
