Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge won’t turn on or boot up, not charging, blue light blinking & other power related problems

There are actually three most common problems we received from Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge (#Samsung #GalaxyS6Edge) owners: phone won’t turn on, it’s not charging regardless if it’s wired or wireless, and stuck during boot up. All these issues show a sign of some serious problems and need immediate attention especially if the device gets hot.

I addressed several power-related issues in this post so if you think your problem is related, read on to know more of them. However, if you were trying to find a solution for a totally different issue, visit our S6 Edge troubleshooting page. We list down every problem we tackle each week so there’s a chance your issue has already been addressed. If so, try to use the solutions we provided and if they won’t work, tell us more about your problem via this form.

Galaxy S6 Edge won’t boot up

Problem: Hi Droid guys! I have a Samsung Edge S6 Edge for several months now. I have looked after it well so it should be working ok. Last week, it basically was dead after I charged it during the night. Power button didn’t work. The shop where I bought it did a reboot and said it had to be charged even though I had charged it already.

I recharged and all was ok until this morning. Same thing happened again after recharging it during night.. This time I couldn’t get it to reboot. The last app I was in on was ‘One drive’. I checked your website and tried the safe mode Power and Volume down key. This worked.

I’m quite pissed off. This was an expensive phone. As S6 Edge  is doing this a lot now, should I just send it back and get a new one on the guarantee? Have you other users who have the same problem repeating?

Do you know how it can be avoided? I have never had this problem with other android phones before. Cheers, Nollaig.

Troubleshooting: It’s actually up to you if you want to get it replaced or not. If you can’t bear the thought that your new expensive phone has issues, then I suggest you got it replaced while you still can request for a brand new replacement unit.

The way I see it, the cause of the problem is either a system crash or it just froze up for some reason. Either way, you can get it to power on by pressing and holding on the Volume Down and Power keys together for 20 seconds. The procedure will perform the simulated battery disconnect and reboots the phone.

The two most common causes of this problem is a firmware issue or there’s an app that keeps crashing. But whatever the case is, try to perform the master reset and use the phone without third-party apps installed. If the problem persists, then have it replaced.

Master Reset

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  3. When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  4. Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  6. Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  7. After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.

Galaxy S6 Edge won’t charge via cord (Bell Canada)

Problem: Hi there, this phone was sent out to bell for repair under warranty only to receive it back again with bell claiming it was unrepairable and not covered. The phone will not charge via cord but WILL charge with the wireless charging pad (I found this out after i received the phone back). Thank you.

Troubleshooting: Do you expect us to say that “Hey, your provider probably ruined your phone” because that’s not going to happen. Besides, the company’s technician has the authority to say whether to honor the warranty claim or not based on his findings. You didn’t even bother to tell us what the problem with your phone why you sent it in for repair in the first place. If we knew what the first problem was, we might be able to answer your questions.

But anyway, have you tried using a different charger? If not, please try that. If the problem persists, talk with your provider or seek assistance from Samsung itself and report what happened.

Galaxy S6 Edge has black screen with blue blinking light

Problem: Phone was functioning fine, played music on way to work.  Put the phone in its holster case, and later (a couple of hours) the phone won’t turn on.  The blue light is flashing but screen is black and will not display anything.  Tried rebooting and resetting as per your instructions but still no response.

Troubleshooting: The fact that you’re seeing a blinking blue light means that the phone is actually on, although, it may have been frozen up. The most common cause is system crash. To bring the phone back to life (this isn’t a permanent fix) is to press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 20 seconds to perform the simulated battery disconnect. After this, the phone should turn on provided there’s enough battery to power it up. However, there’s a chance the problem will come back so you need to be really observant to detect a pattern or notice what triggers it. Performing a master reset may fix the issue.

Related Problem: Suddenly my screen is blackout and press any buttons it doesn’t not light up. Top left hand corner there is a blue light blinking. Please advice what I need to do.

Galaxy S6 Edge won’t charge via wall outlet

Problem: My Galaxy S6 Edge will not charge when it is connected to a wall outlet. It will only recognize a power supply when it is connected as a media device ( connected to a laptop, gaming system, in the car, etc.) And when it is connected as a media device it will take over 3 hours to charge only if I’m not using it. Any help you can provide  as to why it might not charge would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Troubleshooting: Well, at least, we know the phone will somehow charge. Of course, it will take longer to charge it via a computer USB port because it only gives off 0.5 Amperes compared to the original charger that pushes 2.0 Amperes of current.

Try on a different charger and/or USB cable. If the phone still refuses to charge, then it’s time you send it in for further testing and assessment. There’s a chance the USB port itself is loose or damage.

Galaxy S6 Edge stuck on boot logo

Problem: I did hard reset and after pressing power key to reboot, the phone only displays…SAMSUNG GALAXY S6 EDGE POWERED BY ANDROID…Its just blinking that statement and then no response what should i do please.

Troubleshooting: If the phone had a problem with its firmware prior to the reset, then the firmware may need to be re-flashed to make it work again. However, if it was working just fine, then just wait it out and it should boot up successfully. The load time will be doubled if the phone is booting up for the first time after a hard or factory reset or even after wiping the cache partition.

Galaxy S6 Edge won’t turn on after charging

Problem: Hi. I have had my phone since June. It’s been working fine. I put it on charge last night and this morning it doesn’t turn on. I have tried holding the power button and the volume button down. Doesn’t seen to work. I’m not sure what to do.

Troubleshooting: Try again. Press and hold the Volume Down button the Power key together for 20 seconds. If it doesn’t respond to force reboot, try booting it up in recovery mode:

If you can get it to boot up in that mode, proceed with the wiping of cache partition, otherwise, you need help from a technician.

Galaxy S6 Edge entered boot loop after update

Problem: I installed the latest upgrade and now it turns on and then stays on the black screen with Samsung lit up. It then commences to turn on with name of the phone coming on and then the carrier message (with sound). It then goes back to the black Samsung screen. It’s on a constant loop. I have tried all of your tips but it won’t power off with any of them. It just keeps going round in the same cycle.

Troubleshooting: Sounds like the Power key is stuck. Try to press (and release) it many times to see if you can fix it that way. If not, then you really need a technician to open your phone and fix it for you.

Galaxy S6 Edge got wet, won’t turn on

Problem: I dropped my phone in a cup of water and it doesn’t turn on at all. I left it in a bag of rice for 2 days then took it out and plugged the charger in and all it did was get hot. No lights turned on at all. I put it in rice for another week and tried the same thing and all it did was het hot again. Now it doesn’t even get hot or do anything.

Suggestion: That’s what water does to a phone. Some circuits may have been shorted and that could be the reason why it gets hot instead of turning on. My suggestion is stop trying to turn the phone on and don’t charge it yet. Instead, let the technician check if it can still be fixed.
