Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus hasn’t received phone calls & text messages, more call related problems

Hey guys! I addressed some call related issues with the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus (#Samsung #GalaxyS6EdgePlus) in this post. The first issue is about a unit that hasn’t received incoming calls and text messages for a couple of occasions. When it comes to these problems, the first thing that you should check is the coverage especially if calls go straight to voice mail.

The second problem is about a unit that seems to have faulty microphones as the owner said callers can hear him if he’s not using a Bluetooth headset, although he didn’t mention if a wired headset may work as well. Read on to know more about these issues and how to fix them if you encounter one.

Galaxy S6 Edge+ hasn’t received calls / texts on two occasions

Problem: On two occasions my phone has not received calls or text messages. The call go straight to the voice mail with no indication and the texts just don’t land. When I’m made aware that my phone isn’t working properly I’ve tried to ring someone and that works. Then the phone works OK and the missed text messages land.

Troubleshooting: It happens all the time and the primary cause is service interruption during the time someone called your number or sent you a text message. More often, minor service interruptions could last only a few minutes that’s why you may not be able to notice it until someone told you they called your number but they were brought directly to the voice mail.

Speaking of voice mail, the caller will only be asked to leave a message if there’s no answer on the other end, the number is out of coverage area (it also covers the service interruption), the number is temporarily inactive or the owner set the phone to directly send callers to VM.

Now, if your phone is connected to 4G LTE network, that might also be the cause why you haven’t received those calls and texts. While LTE is more advanced, it may not be as stable as the previous technology…yet. So, things can happen in the background that might result to service interruptions. Try changing the network mode to WCDMA/GSM:

  1. Slide your finger down from the top of the screen.
  2. Touch the Settings icon.
  3. Tap on Mobile networks.
  4. Touch Network mode.
  5. Choose WCDMA/GSM (auto connect).

Of course, if the problem persists, bring your phone to your provider.

Owners can’t be heard when not using Bluetooth headset

Problem: People can’t hear me on the phone when I don’t have my Bluetooth on. Either on speaker or off speaker.

Answer: If it happens to every call you make or receive, then it’s a hardware problem. You may have gotten a faulty unit. However, if the phone suffered a physical or liquid damage, then you need to have a technician take a look at it for further checking.

In case the phone was working fine since day one and the problem started without apparent reason, there could be an app that’s causing it. It’s best if you booted your phone in safe mode:

  1. Turn off your Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.
  2. Press and hold the Power key.
  3. When ‘Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+’ appears, immediately release the Power key and then press and hold the Volume Down button.
  4. Continue holding the Volume Down button until the phone finishes the restart.
  5. When you see Safe Mode on the lower left corner of the screen, release the button.

When in safe mode, try making calls to see if the person on the other end can hear you. If still can’t, then the last troubleshooting procedure you need to do before sending the phone for repair is the master reset.

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  3. When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  4. Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  6. Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  7. After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.

Unable to receive several incoming calls

Problem: Hi, I bought this new device 3 days ago in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. I am not able to receive incoming call several times. The message is phone is off and I do get missed call notification SMS after a while. Have done all remedy suggest in your webpage already. Please suggest way to rectify.

Troubleshooting: First off all, call the service provider to see if the phone was properly provisioned. Secondly, make sure there is coverage in the area you’re in. Third, try to change the network mode to WCDMA/GSM in case it’s set to connect to LTE network.

  1. Slide your finger down from the top of the screen.
  2. Touch the Settings icon.
  3. Tap on Mobile networks.
  4. Touch Network mode.
  5. Choose WCDMA/GSM (auto connect).

Unable to connect to network, no GSM/WCDMA mode

Problem: My phone does not connect to network. In mobile network menu it has no gsm/wcdma mode.

Suggestion: My first suggestion is to call your provider and have the phone replaced. It must be a bug in the firmware since all phone should have the option.

Now, my second suggestion is kind of tricky especially to not so techie people: dial *#*#4636#*#* to access the secret menu on your phone. Tap on “Device info” and scroll down a little bit until you see the arrow pointing down. Tap on it and choose whatever option you want to choose.

Can’t access call logs when in a phone call

Problem: When you’re all within a phone call there’s no way to check recent calls.

Answer: Well, you should be able to access it; all Android phones allow users to access even the call logs when in a phone call. I don’t know what happens to your phone when you try to access the logs since you didn’t provide more information about the problem. But I suggest you try to reset the phone and see if that helps.
