S5 Not Connecting To Mobile Data After Factory Reset

Problem: I recently factory reset my phone, however, after doing so I’m not able to use mobile data. Wifi works fine, but it won’t connect to data. I never have any trouble before resetting my phone. I tried restarting and reinserting SIM card. Tried setting APN to default. Do I need to reset it again? Thank you.

Solution: When you factory reset your phone everything will revert back to its default settings. Since you are not able to connect to your mobile data connection there is a big possibility that the APN settings in your phone is not the one your current network is using.

I suggest you visit your carrier’s website and check what APN settings they are using. Compare this to the settings in your phone and make the necessary changes.

S5 Slow Mobile Data Connection

Problem: Hi, I have a S5 duos since Jan 2015. I notice in April the data connection is very slow when on broadband. On WIFI its fine. For example when I used Speed Test Ap at home WIFI (home WIFI box is 5 years old and wasn’t top range) Ping 6 ms,  Down Load speed 15.5 Mbps, Upload 3.2. Broadband phone network connection Ping 300 ms,  Down Load speed 0.18 Mbps, Upload 0.10. I have tried different sim cards, in different countries on different data plans. The situation is the same, its not the phone provider. I have done a Factory Reset, no change. What next?

Solution: Try doing several other additional tests to check if this is a network or phone issue. Start your phone in Safe Mode then connect using your mobile data plan. Observe theconnection speed at different times of the day and at different locations. This is to check if the problem is due to network congestion or to a signal related issue.

If your connection speed improves at a particular time of the day or night then the problem may be with network congestion. If you are getting a good speed in other areas then the problem may be with the signal your phone is getting.

You should also check the Internet speed when your phone is set to different connection modes. Try checking the speed when your phone is set to LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) then check it at WCDMA only.

If the problem still persists then this may already be a hardware related issue. You should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Hotspot Not Working

Problem: When I set my phone up to be used as a Wi-Fi hotspot and then connect with my Samsung Galaxy Tablet or my PC (currently running Win10, but had the same problem with win 8.1), the tablet/pc connects and it *looks* as though there is a WiFi connection but I cannot actually get anything to download. It worked fine when I took delivery of the phone, because I checked it before I left the shop. I can connect my PC to the phone through a USB connection and it works, and I can certainly connect the phone to the internet. The WiFi hotspot also works just fine when I put the SIM back into my four year old HTC Desire phone, so it is not a problem with the Tablet. Do you have any suggestions? I had this problem with another S5, but it happened less than 30 days after I bought it so Samsung just replaced it. I found out about the problem a week or so ago, but at that stage I could connect to the internet using Bluetooth from my tablet, but since I installed the latest software upgrade, I can’t do either.  Any suggestions?

Solution: Since you mentioned that this problem occured right after you updated your phone software then I recommend you backup your phone data and do a factory reset. When issues occur right after a software update the most likely cause is that data from the old software version which is still present in your device is causing a conflict with the new software version. To effectively remove this old data a factory reset must be done.
