S5 Does Not Turn On
Problem: Hello! I wanted to send you guys an email because I’m having problems with my Samsung Galaxy S5. My phone was working fine until last night and then when I plugged it in to charge it, I woke up the next morning with a dead phone. I pressed the power button and it said 0%. I thought that there was something wrong with the outlet because there was the same issue before. I charged it in a different room for a while, and it’s completely dead. I tried taking out the battery and holding the power button for a minute and all of that but it still doesn’t work. Any suggestions? Should I just buy a new battery. I really don’t want to change my phone because I only had it for 6 months. It’s void of cracks and I’ve only dropped it a few times from waist height. I really don’t know what I did wrong. Thank you for your help and I’ll be waiting for you response.
Solution: Your phone may not have charged properly. Try using a different USB cord when charging your phone as this cord usually gets damaged easily. If your phone still does not charge then try using a different charger. Once you have eliminated both the USB cord and the wall charger as the possible cause to this problem then I suggest you get a new battery.
With the new battery inserted in your phone let it charge first for at least 20 minutes using your wall charger before turning on the phone.
S5 Does Not Turn On Not Charging
Problem: My samsung s5 was dying I had no whereby charge it so I put it on airplane mode it seemed to last me about 2% to when I was able to charge it it charged about 20% it dies really fast I got home charged it it seemed to have died again because it didn’t charge so I put it in the charge waiting for it to turn on so I could leave it ..it never turned back on it still will not charge nor turn on i tried take the battery out blowing into the charging hole finding new chargers it just won’t turn back on.
Solution: Check if discharging your phone resolves this issue. Take out your phone battery as well as the microSD card if you have one installed. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges your phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert the battery but leave the microSD out. Plug in your phone to its wall charger and let it charge for at least 20 minutes. After 20 minutes have passed try to turn on your phone.
If your phone does not turn on then try using a different USB cord when charging your phone. You should also try to use a different wall charger.
It’s also possible that your phone battery is already defective. If this is the case then you need to get a new battery and see if this resolves the problem.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S5 Does Not Turn On After Software Update
Problem: My phone has been reminding me to update… I keep pressing that i will do it later and THEN A TIME COMES UP AND I CAN’T ESCAPE THE SCREEN WITHOUT PRESSING OK. Today half asleep the pop up came up on my screen again. I accidentally pressed ok to update now. My phone went into update mode installation… and eventually turned into a black screen. It has been 3 hrs now and the phone is still a black screen with no power. It keeps making a vibrating noise every 10 seconds for half a second and then stops. I took at the battery for 10 seconds, I pressed power for 30 seconds. now I have it plugged into the charger. I’m not sure what else I can do…. Please help me!!
Solution: Your phone may not have enough battery charge when the update started and shut itself down. This may cause the software of your phone to be corrupted.
The first thing you need to do is to take out the battery of your phone as well as the microSD card. Press and hold the power button to discharge your phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then connect your phone to its wall charger. Let it charge for at least 20 minutes before turning on your phone.
If the issue remains then connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer running on Kies. Attempt to do an emergency firmware recovery.
If none of the steps above resolves the problem then you may need to reflash your phone using Odin. Take note that this will delete all data stored in your device. If you wish to proceed with this solution then I suggest you get the proper steps on how to do this from the popular Android forums online.
S5 Does Not Turn On
Problem: Sprint Samsung Galaxy s5 Sport, software G860PVPU2BOH1. My phone randomly started rebooting last Thursday. At least 2-3 times that day. Friday morning it shut down, and would not turn back on. Power button would get the initial Samsung screen, and then would cycle through that over and over. Saturday, I tried a factory reset… it took several attempts to make it to the list to do the reset. Then, it would not get through the boot up sequence. Monday, I tested another battery, and again only got to the yellow Sprint Spark page. Then left it sitting (off) until today, Thursday. Tried several of your troubleshooting tips (even though I figured the factory reset may have already occurred)… a soft reset with the power button, clearing the cache, and then finally a factory reset again. Each time, I only got to the yellow Spring Spark screen. After the last attempt, I got up from the table, and a few minutes later saw that the phone had actually come on. Made it through some of the initial set up before the phone turned itself off again. Power button would not work, so took the battery out briefly. It then powered on again. Then, within about 10-15 minutes, it turned off again. Again, it would not reboot without taking the battery out. I have poured over your Galaxy s5 Troubleshooting page… based on items there, it sounds like potentially the following: hardware issue (can this be fixed by a pro?), power button issue (check with a service center), or reflashing the phone (not Samsung supported). Do you have any additional thoughts or potential troubleshooting ideas at this point? Thank you for all of the tremendous information on your site… at least at this point I have a little hope, whereas yesterday I figured it was all toast.
Solution: You should consider reflashing your phone software using Odin to eliminate the possibility of a corrupt software causing this problem. If after reflashing your phone the issue remains then this may very well be a hardware problem already. If this is the case then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S5 Does Not Turn On Unless Connected To Charger
Problem: My phone keeps shutting off on its own. Like just now I had 100 percent battery life but it shut off and wouldn’t come back on until I hooked it back up to the charger. What is the issue.
Solution: There’s a possibility that the battery of your phone may be defective. You should try using a new battery on your phone and see if this fixes the problem.
Alternatively, you should also check if this issue is software related by wiping the cache partition of your phone. If that does not help then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
S5 Does Not Turn On Stuck In Download Mode
Problem: my phone wont turn on or charge and it shows the triangle with this” !” in the middle of it and now it has a green android in the middle saying downloading target don’t turn off and it has a bunch of words in red on the left hand corner
Solution: Your phone is stuck in download mode which is why it does not boot up normally. What you should do is to take out your phone battery. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute to discharge your phone circuits and clear out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then turn on your phone. Your phone should boot up normally this time.
In case the issue persists then the phone software may be corrupt. You will need to reflash your phone using Odin. Take note that this will delete all data stored in your phone. If you wish to proceed with this then I suggest you check out the popular Android forums online for the exact procedure on how to do this.
