Smartphones have been slowly entering into the territory of point and shoot cameras in the recent years that nowadays it’s better to use an Android smartphone to take a picture instead of a camera. Recent advances made in the camera and lens technology of smartphones have made them a better alternative even to DSLRs in most situations. The #Samsung Galaxy #Note4 for example comes with a 16MP camera featuring an optical image stabilization which allows for the taking of better quality pictures.
There are however instances when camera related problems occur which is what we will be discussing today. In this latest troubleshooting guide we will tackle the Galaxy Note 4 camera failed issue & other related problems.

Note 4 Camera Failed Message
Problem: Camera failed message appears when trying to open the camera. I was reading the troubleshoot guide and when I use the phone in safe mode the camera works (it means that it isn’t firmware issue). So what I need to do?? when I restart the phone the message appears again.
Solution: If your camera works in Safe Mode then an app you downloaded may be causing the problem. Do you recall the last app you downloaded before the problem occurred? Do you have a third party camera app installed in your phone? Try to find out what app is causing this problem and uninstall it.
If you can’t seem to find the app that is causing this problem then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
Note 4 Server Error Occurred Restart Camera Issue
Problem: Hi. First, I want to apologize because my English is not strong, there might be not perfect writing. I’ve read your answer the questions and I think that are the best guide for people who use android and having problem now. I used note 4 for several months, but my problem started for a month. I can not use camera, when I tap to camera the screen was black and warning “server error occurred. restart camera”. I try to clear cache and clear data, but it dont work. So, if you have any recommend to figure out. Pls, send email to me. Thank you in advance.
Solution: Try starting your phone in Safe Mode to check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem. In this mode only the default apps are allowed to run while those apps you downloaded are disabled. If you can use the camera normally in this mode then the problem is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the problem still persists in Safe Mode then turn off your phone then access the recover mode and wipe the cache partition of your device.
If at this point you are still experiencing the same problem then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset using the hardware keys.
Note 4 Sends Low Quality Pictures In Text
Problem: The phone takes great pictures but when I send it via text the person who receives it. It doesn’t look good. First I sent a pic to someone who has an iphone then to someone who has a note 4 and both were out focus when they opened the message. I only sent the pics no text. Still bad.
Solution: When you send a picture through text message the phone will convert the picture so that it is small enough to be within the size limit set by your network. For AT&T the maximum picture message size is 1MB.
Try sending your yourself a picture message and verify if the photo is indeed out of focus. Make sure to choose a photo that is clear. If the photo appears blurry then the problem may be with the conversion process.
Try clearing the cache and data of your messaging app then wipe the cache partition of your phone as a follow up. Send yourself a picture again and see if the picture is out of focus.
If the problem still remains then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
Note 4 Camera Photos Missing
Problem: When i take photos with the phone now they don’t appear in the photo gallery or any other picture files. Even when I transfer pictures from another device to my phone it receives and downloads but when I try to open them it says item not found. My phone still has plenty of memory space and besides it has an 8gig SD card.
Solution: Try connecting your phone using a USB cord to your computer then browse the DCIM folder of your device. This is where the photos are stored. This folder can either be in the internal storage or the microSD card depending on the phone’s camera storage setting. If the photos are present then the issue may be with the gallery app of your phone.
Disconnect your phone from the computer then clear the cache and data of the gallery app. You should also wipe the cache partition of your phone.
Check if you can now view your photos. If you still can’t view them then start your phone in Safe Mode. This will allow you to check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem as only the phone’s pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode. If you can view your photos in this mode then the problem could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If however the photo can’t be viewed by your computer then they are most likely corrupt already. I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
Note 4 Camera Media Server Failed Error
Problem: Starting camera program get the ‘media server failed. Camera needs restart’. If I quickly switch to front camera no issue. Have tried factory reset has not fixed the issue. Any idea’s? It’s driving me crazy!
Solution: Do you have a microSD card installed in your phone? Try taking it out then check if the error still occurs. Since you already did a factory reset then we can assume that this is not a software issue. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked as the rear camera module may already be faulty.
Note 4 Can’t Play Videos When Camera Storage Set To microSD Card
Problem: In my Samsung galaxy note 4 …i have an external sdcard of 64gb(Samsung evo). The problem is whenever i shoot a video or take picture when the storage location is set to sdcard in camera….it just shows black coloured screen in the gallery …if i played a video it show can’t open file …..i have tried to shoot low quality videos also but it fails…..but all is well if the storage location is set to device… Please help me with this problem…. Thank you.
Solution: The problem may be with the microSD card you are using. Turn off your phone then take out the microSD card then reinsert it again. Record a video and make sure it is saved in the microSD card. Playback the video file and see if it plays normally. If the issue remains the same then get a new microSD card as the one you are using may already be faulty.
Note 4 Does Not Focus
Problem: When I go to take pictures, my camera doesn’t focus, not automatically nor when I touch the screen.
Solution: Check the camera lens first for any signs of dirt or grime. You should also make sure that the plastic film covering the lens has already been removed as this usually causes the phone to have focusing issues. If necessary you should clean the camera lens using a microfiber cloth or some lens paper.
If the focusing problem continues then proceed with clearing the cache and data of your camera app. I suggest you also wipe the cache partition of your phone as a follow up.
To verify if an app you installed in your phone is causing this issue you should start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. If your camera can focus in Safe Mode then the problem is most likely caused by a downloaded app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
One last troubleshooting step you should consider is a factory reset. Make sure to do this only if you have backed up your phone data.
Note 4 Camera Cannot Zoom
Problem: Unable zoom the camera with fingers on the screen. Previously I was able to zoom. Now the functionality is no longer there. ‘Cannot zoom in or out in this mode’ message appears for all the modes when selected.
Solution: If your phone is in Easy Mode then you won’t be able to use the zoom feature. You should set your phone back to Standard Mode. To do this go to settings – personalization – tap Standard Mode.
If your phone is already in Standard Mode then this may just be a software glitch. Try clearing the cache and data of the camera app then wipe the cache partition of your phone. Check if the issue still occurs.
If the problem still persists then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
