Problem #1: Facebook app on Galaxy Note 4 keeps freezing

I just read your Facebook article. I have a Note 4 running Lollipop. I’ve cleared the cache, soft reset my phone,  factory reset it three times total since I’ve owned it. Facebook comes pre-installed so we can’t uninstall it. It constantly locks up. I have to close all running apps and go back in to turn off active apps. Then it freezes again. — Sherry

Solution: Hi Sherry. If Facebook can’t be removed, deleting it’s data is the virtual equivalent of uninstallation. To do that, just follow these steps:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Proceed to Applications.
  • Select Manage Applications.
  • Tap the All tab.
  • Look for Facebook app and tap it.
  • From there, you will see the Clear Data button.

Deleting an app’s data will remove any settings or account associated with that app.

Problem #2: eBay app issue on Galaxy Note 4

I have been having a scrolling issue with the eBay app. I’ve gotten several eBay app updates since it began but it still remains. I began having the same problem on my old phone, a Samsung Galaxy S4. I got my Note 4 in the last month and I’m having the same issue. The specific problem is it refuses to scroll in emails (in the app) and listing descriptions. I’ve read comments from other users of the eBay app but no others appear to have this issue. Once in a great while I can scroll but only a couple of times. Can someone please try to figure out if this is an Android issue, a Samsung issue or an app issue? I would really appreciate any help; I use that app almost daily. Thank you! — Cindy

Solution: Hi Cindy. Have you tried doing the standard software troubleshooting? There’s no way for anyone to know what the problem is if you haven’t done the basics yourself. As a rundown, here are the things that you must do on your end.

Delete the app’s cache and data

For issues that appear isolated to a single app, this solution is often effective. Steps are provided above.

Delete the system cache

This solution is best done when there seems to be a general issue with the system, or when a device suffers from performance issues. Here’s how:

  • Turn off the Galaxy Note 4 completely.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up and the Home keys together, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the Note 4 vibrates, release both the Home and Power keys but continue holding the Volume Up key.
  • When the Android System Recovery shows on the screen, release the Vol Up key.
  • Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option ‘wipe cache partition’ and press the Power key to select it.
  • When the wiping of the cache partition is finished, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the power key.

Re-install the app

Sometimes, removing and installing an app again can work wonders. If you haven’t done this before, you can try this simple step even before you try wiping the caches and data.

Restore firmware defaults via factory reset

A factory reset may be needed if all the things above won’t work. Keep in mind that doing this step will delete your personal data like photos, videos, contacts, etc. Try to create a copy of your important stuff before you proceed. Just follow these steps:

  • Turn off the Galaxy Note 4 completely.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up and the Home keys together, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the Note 4 vibrates, release both the Home and Power keys but continue holding the Volume Up key.
  • When the Android System Recovery shows on the screen, release the Vol Up key.
  • Using the Volume Down key, highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  • Now highlight ‘Yes — delete all user data’ using the Vol Down key and press the Power key to begin the reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key.
  • The Note 4 will restart but it will be longer than usual. When it reaches the Home screen, then begin your setup.

If the problem remains after a factory reset, the issue must be the eBay app and not your device. Try to contact the app’s developer to let them about the problem, and to hopefully get more support from them.

Problem #3: Email images won’t load when viewed on Galaxy Note 4

Email images won’t load. I just get a blank white screen. I am receiving new emails, I just can’t read them. In settings, the load images box is checked. I have unchecked it and re-checked it to see if it made a difference. It did not. I have deleted and re-added my Yahoo account but that made no difference either. I updated my system last week, and my emails stopped working yesterday so I am not sure if it’s related.  Please help! — Ellie

Solution:  Hi Ellie. What app are you using to check your Yahoo account? If this issue happens when viewing your emails using the Yahoo app, clearing its cache and data may help. Please follow the steps provided above on how to do this.

Wiping the cache partition may also fix the issue.

As a workaround, you can try viewing your email using other means. For example, if you badly need to check your email but the Yahoo app is not working, you can use the phone’s stock web browser to log-in to your account instead.

Problem #4: Apps disappeared from Galaxy Note 4 and Play Store won’t load

Hi. I have a Note 4 that I updated this same morning to the latest update available and when it finished  most of my apps disappeared vanished from the phone and I can’t open Play Store. And I also have an error message in my notification panel that says ‘please get Google Play Services’ ?? please help.

thank you in advance. — Moun

Solution: Hi Moun. The update did not clearly go as intended and the firmware on your phone may have been corrupted. Try wiping the cache partition first to see if that will make any difference. The cache partition sometimes get corrupted during and after an update so manually refreshing it may work.

If deleting the cache won’t do anything, kindly proceed to factory reset.

Problem #5: “Unfortunately, email has stopped” error keeps showing on Galaxy Note 4

I’m having multiple pop ups on my screen that reads, “Unfortunately, email has stopped.” This occurs for a few apps including email. I am unable to receive text messages, my action memos and photos are no longer visible. I’m unable to use Chrome for internet surfing.

Please help me. What would you do to fix this problem. Thanks. — Kim

Solution: Hi Kim. The message that pops up is a generic error usually generated when an app crashes. Sometimes, this message also shows up when there’s a general system issue. Fortunately for you, this problem can easily be fixed by doing the standard software troubleshooting like wiping the cache partition and performing a factory reset.

Problem #6: Google app crashing on Galaxy Note 4

Hi. I recently removed all the home screens bar one as I don’t use them. Since doing so my Google app is crashing. I uninstalled the update of the latest update and it works. When the update happens automatically, the app crashes again not allowing me to use Google app manually or via voice command.

Any help to resolve this please.

Thanks. — Happy

Solution: Hi Happy. Try to force stop and delete the cache and data of Google Services Framework app. The steps are the same when deleting an app’s cache and data outlined above.

Problem #7: “Cannot install on USB storage or SD card error code: -18” error on Galaxy Note 4

Hi Droid Guy. I’ve had my Galaxy Note 4 for over a year now and everything has been fine up until a few weeks ago. When I try and download an app from the Play Store, it’s fine but when it goes to install it I always get a message saying “Cannot install on USB storage or SD card error code: -18”!

Now I went through all the things they said to do on the troubleshoot page and I still can’t install anything. I still have 8.4G left on my phone storage and for some reason I can’t even move anything to my SD card so all I’ve used of that is 1G !! So I have the space for it but it still won’t let me install anything!! Please help me this is driving me up the wall!!

Thank You. — Kara

Solution: Hi Kara. Since you did not indicate what specific solutions you have tried so far, we would like to re-iterate that you must do all the suggested troubleshooting we mentioned in this post, most importantly the wiping of cache partition and doing a factory reset.

If none of them work, try to reformat the SD card. If you haven’t done it before, here’s how to do it:

  • From a Home screen, tap Apps.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Storage.
  • Tap Format SD card and follow the prompts.

Using another SD card may also help you identify if the trouble originates from a faulty SD card.
