S4 Screen Turns Black After Software Update
Problem: Hi… I have been lately reading your posts on drippler and found helpful. Recently i have an issue with my s4.. It started after i updated to lollipop version.. The screen for few seconds turn black.. Just for seconds.. I guess u can use the term flicker for it. I have reset it 2 to 3 times.. But no use.. It really sucks to see such thing happening on a smartphone… Please give me a solution to stop it… Thanks.
Solution: By reset I assume you did a factory reset. This is actually quite a helpful troubleshooting step since it eliminates any software upgrade issues. In this case though the reset did not work which means that there may be another reason why your screen turns black for a few seconds. Have you noticed when exactly the screen flickering occurs? Does it happen when you open a certain app or does it happen just randomly?
Try to check first if an app you installed is causing this issue by starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while those apps you installed are disabled. Once your phone is in Safe mode then observe if the issue still occurs. If it does then restart your phone normally.
Since the problem may not be caused by an app the next thing you need to do is to eliminate the possible sources of this problem. If your phone has a microsD card installed then take it out.Sometimes an external case can also cause this issue so if your phone has one installed then remove it as well.
You should also check if there are any new updates available for your phone or for the apps installed in your phone. You should check for a new system update and apply it if there is one. You should also open the Google Play Store then click on the My Apps portion. You be notified as to which apps needs to be updated. Update the apps that needs to be updated.
S4 Missing Features After Lollipop Update
Problem: My version of Lollipop doesn’t seem to have screen pinning, Different user modes (like guest & ect), or when u slide down from the top it doesn’t have the different mode settings as in priority mode. My battery also is draining super fast since the update. Also, my headset that I use which is ran by the Tone & Talk App, the volume is really low & didn’t used to be when I first bought it. It’s a bluetooth. My main Concern is the Lollipop issues, & battery draining. If u have any suggestions that would be great. I’ve researched & google my update & they all seem to have all of those features except mine. Please help!! Thank u SO MUCH!!
Solution: Since your phone is experiencing multiple issues after the software update I suggest you backup your phone data first then do a factory reset. This wipes out any old software data that may still be in your phone and is conflicting with the new software version and causing these issues. Once you are done with the factory reset then check your phone is the issues still persist.
Regarding the battery drain issue this may be caused by certain apps in your phone that have not been updated yet. Try to update these apps by opening the Google Play Store then clicking on the My Apps portion. If an app needs to be updated you will be notified of it. You should also check if there are certain services running that you are not using. These includes the Bluetooth, Location, Wi-Fi, and mobile data just to name a few.
S4 Not Sync Via Bluetooth After Software Update
Problem: Since doing the update on my phone, I have not been able to sync my contacts and phone to my car Bluetooth. Also, I have been using the fitbit app on my phone since april with no issues. Since the update, my fitbit will no longer sync with by phone. Very, very disappointed.
Solution: For the sync issue that you are experiencing try to delete the Bluetooth connection between your phone and your car then pair them again. This usually works in cases like this. If the problem still remains then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This takes out any remnant old software data that may still be in your phone and may be causing this issue. This procedure may also help resolve the Fitbit issue that you are having although in the official Fitbit website they have announced that you may not be able to sync the device with your phone if it is running on Android Lollipop.
S4 Randomly Turns Off After Software Update
Problem: I update my Samsung to Lollipop 5.0.1 recently and ever since my phone has been randomly turning off and back on again for no reason whatsoever. I’ve tried manually updating and there are no other updates. I’ve also had my phone back to the store where I bought it and they suggested doing a factory reset which I did but still my phone turns off and back on again. Since doing the reset it doesn’t do it as much as it used to but I don’t want to have to out up with this till the new update comes out, whenever that might be is there anything else that you can suggest I do. Thanks
Solution: Have you tried checking if any of the apps installed in your phone need updating? Sometimes an outdated app that is designed to run on KitKat can cause this type of issue on a device that has been updated to Lollipop. Open the Google Play Store then access the My Apps section. See if any of your apps need updating and update if necessary.
You should also check if this issue is caused by a third party app by starting your phone in Safe Mode then observing your phone if the issue occurs. You won’t have access to your third party apps in this mode since they will be disabled. If the issue does not occur then you need to find the app that is causing this and uninstall it.
Another factor that you should check is if this issue is caused by a faulty microSD card. Try removing the microSD card of your phone is you have one installed then see if the issue still occurs.
S4 Wi-Fi Randomly Turns Off After Software Update
Problem: Ever since it updated the OS WiFi turns off by itself & I constantly have to re-enter my password for our home WiFi. I never had this problem before the last 2 updates.
Solution: Several phone owners of various models have been experiencing all sorts of Wi-Fi connectivity issues ever since they updates their phone software to Android Lollipop. One such issue is the Wi-Fi that turns off on its own. One possible solution to this problem is to change the wireless channel of your router. For this you will need to access the router main page using a browser. If your router is using the 2.4Ghz band then try to avoid channel 12 and 13.
Another solution to this issue is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This clears your phone of any old system data that may still be present and is causing issues with the new software version.
S4 Video Freezes After Lollipop Update
Problem: Since downloading the new lollipop update I can’t play videos, netflix, movies. About 30 seconds into the video the picture freezes but the audio still plays. If i wait it out the video begins to play again but the audio and video are about 30 seconds off track.
Solution: This issue may be caused by a glitch in the cached data of your phone. Try wiping your phone cache partition then check if the problem still remains. If the problem still persists then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This procedure usually resolves this issue especially if it occurs right after a software update.
