S4 Camera Shuts Off On Its Own

Problem: My camera closes, or shuts off on it’s own when trying to take pictures or videos. I never know how long it’s going to stay on. Doesn’t matter which camera either either.

Solution: You should start the troubleshooting by checking if the problem is caused by a corrupt cached data in your camera app. If it is then clearing the cache and data of your camera app will do the trick. You should also follow this up by wiping the cache partition of your phone.

If the problem still occurs then the next step that you should do is to check if a certain third party app installed in your phone is causing the problem. To check if this is the case you will have to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while the apps that you downloaded are disabled.Take a picture in this mode and observe if the issue still occurs. If the problem disappears then it is most likely caused by an app installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the problem still persists even in Safe Mode then you need to backup your phone data and do a factory reset. This brings your phone back to its original state when it was new and usually resolves this type of problem especially if it is caused by a software glitch.

S4 Camera Failed Error

Problem: Ever since I started school I would turn off my phone to not waste battery, or for it going off in class. Then when I would turn it back on and go on a camera related app it would say camera isn’t working. I went to the camera and it said Warning: Camera Failed. I tried cleaning the cache, shut down my phone and took out the battery for more than 10 secs. and the camera still doesn’t work. The camera hasn’t been working for the past few days, and I really need for it to work again. Thanks.

Related Problem: When ever I click camera application it shows warning camera failed error please help me out.

Solution: Clearing the cache of the camera app and restarting your phone are both excellent initial troubleshooting steps. In this case though the camera failed error still occurs despite performing the above mentioned steps.

What you should do next is to wipe the cache partition of your phone. There are instances when your phone has a corrupt cached data and this may be causing the issue.

You should also try to start your phone in Safe Mode to eliminate any problems caused by third party apps. In Safe Mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while the apps that you downloaded are disabled. This makes it easier for you to check if an app you installed is causing the problem. If you can use your camera without any problems in this mode then chances are the issue is caused by an app you installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Finally, if the problem still persists even in Safe Mode then you will have to backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

S4 Black Display When Using Rear Camera

Problem: when I try using the back camera the screen stays black. the front camera works but the resolution isn’t as clean as the main camera on the back. the camera settings come up when I hit the camera app, but the view is black. the camera lens looks intact, there’s no chips or cracks. the flash works.

Solution: This may already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This allows you to quickly eliminate any software related issues that may be causing this problem. After the factory reset you should immediately check the rear camera and see if the problem still occurs. If it does then I suggest that you bring your phone to an authorized service center as there may be something wrong with your phone’s rear camera module.

S4 Front Facing Camera Stopped Working

Problem: Front facing camera and video stopped working (attempting to select those options freezes up my phone until I manually close camera app or restart my phone)  6 months after owning this phone. It’s been a year since and I’ve tried restarting the phone, clearing the cache etc.

Solution: Try starting your phone in Safe Mode first and see if the issue still occurs in this mode. Usually, if the problem is caused by a third party app it should go away in this mode. If you can use the front camera in this mode then an app may be causing the issue. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the problem still occurs even in Safe Mode then you will need to verify if the problem is caused by your phone software. Back up your phone data then do a factory reset. Check and see if your front camera works after the reset.

If the issue persists then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked as this may already be a hardware related problem.

S4 Phone Freezes When Taking Photos

Problem: Standard camera app. When I take a pic or video with the phone upright, it locks up. I have to remove the battery to fix it. If I hold it horizontal,  it’s fine.

Solution: There’s a big possibility that this issue may just be caused by a corrupt cached data .I suggest you clear the cache and data of your phone camera app first. Follow this up by wiping the cache partition of your phone.

If you have a microSD card installed in your phone try removing this as this may also be the cause of the problem.

If the issue still persists then backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
