Troubleshooting Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Text Message Sending Failed & Other Related Issues

Most of the time the reason behind this is mainly due to a glitch in the software and rarely do we see the hardware as causing the problem.

For this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy Note 4 text message sending failed issue. We will answer some of the problems sent to us by our readers regarding this nature by providing the necessary troubleshooting steps required to resolve the issue.

Note 4 Text Message Sending Failed

Problem: In text messaging it states message failed”” and it doesn’t send this happening despite resetting? It was occurring occasionally but is occurring more frequently even with full bars.  The other issue is the screen timeout keeps resetting to a lower setting despite numerous changes.

Solution: When you get a text message sending failed error in your device the first thing you should check if the phone has a signal. Once you have confirmed that the signal is good proceed with restarting the device. The restart not only refreshes the phone software but also resets your phone connection to the network.

If the same error message still appears then the next thing you should do is to clear the cache and data of your messaging app. The issue may be caused by a corrupt cached data within the app which you need to delete to solve the issue.

You should also proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone to eliminate the cached data of the system.

If the problem still persists then try checking if it is caused by a third party app by starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the default apps are allowed to run while the apps that you downloaded are disabled.

If you can now send a message without any problems in this mode then a third party app may be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If however the issue still persists even in Safe Mode then I suggest your phone data and do a factory reset. This reset may also help resolve the second issue that you are having with your device regarding the screen timeout changing on its own.

Note 4 Arriving Text Message Disappears Instantly

Problem: Arriving message shows up and disappears almost immediately. Doesn’t reappear.

Solution: One possible cause to this is a problem with the RAM. To resolve this you need to clear the RAM of your phone. Take out your phone battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. Reinsert the battery then turn on your phone. Check if the issue still persists.

If the problem still occurs then

Another possible cause of this problem is if you have enabled a backup and sync service on the messaging app you are using. If you are under the AT&T network and are using the AT&T Messages app then this may be causing the problem. Several people experiencing this very same problem disabled the AT&T cloud/sync settings that stores texts to the servers.

If the problem still persists after doing the above troubleshooting steps then check if there are any available software updates for your device and install them. If your phone is already running on the latest software version then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Sending Blank Text Message

Problem: Hi, When sending a text message, sometimes the recipient receives a completely blank message. I don’t know if it’s due to the certain amount of Characters or the amount of Emoji’s that are contained within the text message, but it is rather consistent and am thinking perhaps it could be related to signal issues or to the ones above? I never had this problem when I had my Nokia Lumia. I’m currently using Handcent to send text messages as I thought that this would remove the issue of the blank text messages, but it doesn’t seem to have helped. Hope there is a solution for this!

Solution: Does this issue occur when sending a text message to a particular recipient? What phone is the recipient using? If the recipient is using an iPhone then have them send you at least one message using iMessage marked as an SMS message. Once this is done all messages you send to the recipient will be interpreted as an SMS and not as an iMessage ( which will appear on their end as blank).

Although this issue is usually caused by a problem on the receiving end you should also check if the problem is with your phone. To check if this is the case try to send yourself a couple of  text messages. The longer the text message the better, and include Emoji’s with your message. If you can consistently receive the text message without any problems then it’s very likely that the recipient’s phone has an issue.

Note 4 Delayed Group Text Messages

Problem: My coworkers and I have a group text thread. When we first have a couple of texts, they come through at a normal time frame. After a few messages, the timing is delayed and can be as long as an hour. None of my other colleagues have this issue. I’ve cleaned out my texts and phone and nothing seems to help. It also doesn’t matter where I am so I don’t think service has anything to do it.

Solution: A group text requires mobile data to work as it is sent as an MMS and not as SMS. The first thing that you should check then is the mobile data status of your phone. Does your phone have sufficient data coverage? Check if your phone has 4G LTE data signal. You should also check if the APN settings of your phone is the same as your carrier APN settings. If it is different then make the necessary changes.

You should also check if this is an issue with the app itself by using a different app when group texting. If you are using the stock messaging app then try switching to Hangouts or you can download the popular messaging apps available at the Google Play Store.

One other possible cause of this problem is a third party app installed in your phone. To check if this is the case I recommend starting your phone in Safe Mode then using the stock messaging app or Hangouts proceed with group texting. If you don’t experience any delay then the problem may be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If you are still experiencing the delay even in Safe Mode then you will need to backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

Note 4 Text Typing Interrupted When Text Message Arrives

Problem: Text typing interrupted when incoming text is being received. Issue started with lady samsung “update” that include  the ‘swipe’ with text typing.

Solution: This could just be a software glitch since it occurred right after the update. Perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below. Proceed to the next step if the current step fails to resolve the issue.

  • Clear the cache and data of your messaging app. There may be some corrupt cached data stored in the app which is causing this problem.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone. There may be some corrupt cached system data that may be causing this problem.
  • Backup your phone data and do a factory reset. If the issue occurs right after a software update then a factory reset will solve the problem most of the time.
