S4 Not Receiving Text Message
Problem: Just started last night around 8pm but didn’t do from around 6 am until 4 pm today. Can send texts but not receive until I make a phone call and then they all come at once.
Related Problem: I can send text messages out but I don’t receive any until I start talking on the phone with someone. This issue has been going on for 2-3 days now.
Solution: Other owners of this phone who are also experiencing this same issue attribute this to a software related problem.
If this is a glitch in the phone software then try to restart your phone first.
Sometimes the messaging app may have some corrupt temporary data in it that is causing this problem. To check if this is the case try to clear the cache and data of your stock messaging app. You should also make sure to use the stock messaging app of your phone and not a third party messaging app.
Another possible cause of this problem is a third party app that you installed in your phone. To check if this is the case you should start your phone in Safe Mode. Once in Safe Mode have someone send you a text message. If the message arrives normally then the problem may be caused by an app you installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If you are still not getting a text message even in Safe Mode then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone.
Once the cache partition has been wiped and the problem still occurs then you need to backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
S4 Lag In Composing Text Message
Problem: When I go to type it’s like my text lags but it also reads letters I never even typed. I thought it was my swipe cause my swipe was also coming into play completely at random times through my messaging. I turned the swipe off but it’s not helping. It mainly does it when I’m on facebook.
Solution: When you are experiencing a lag in messaging using the Facebook app the most common cause of this problem is the cached data in the Facebook app. There may be some corrupt temporary data or the app may have accumulated a huge amount of temporary data. To resolve this you need to clear the cache and data of your messaging app.
There are also cases when an app installed in your phone is causing the problem. If this is the case then you need to start your phone in Safe Mode.In this mode only the pre-installed apps are able to run while the apps that you installed are disabled. Check if the issue still occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it may be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If however you still experience the same issue even in Safe Mode then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone. If wiping the cache partition fails to resolve the problem then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
S4 Not Sending Text Message
Problem: Every now and then, my phone fails to send text message. Mostly it corrects itself after an hour or so. Until last night it was working fine when I switched it off because of very low battery thinking I would charge it in the morning. I tried sending a message after it was partially charged but it did not go through. Now after several hours it has been charged but it is refusing to send text messages. It is receiving messages and email is working fine also.
Solution: If the problem corrects itself after some time has elapsed then try to check first if this is a network related problem. You should first check with your carrier if there are any network related issues in your area concerning text messages. If there are none then proceed with restarting your phone. This resets your phone connection to the network and may help resolve this issue.
You should also check the message center number of your phone. This number should match the one used by your network so that you will be able to send a text message. If this number is different then make the necessary changes.
Another possible cause to this problem is that an app installed in your phone may be preventing the sending of text message. To check if this is the case you should start your phone in Safe Mode then try to send a text message. If the text message can be sent then the problem is most likely caused by an app installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the problem still occurs even in Safe Mode then the last troubleshooting step that you should do is to perform a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before performing this procedure.
S4 Not Sending Text Message Or Making Calls
Problem: My phone will not send texts or calls will not go out. My phone will not get service anywhere, and it just started happening today.
Solution: If your phone is not getting any service then you should first try to contact your carrier and ask if there are any network related issues in your area. You should also have your account checked for any issues.
Once you have made sure that the network and your account are fine it’s time to start the troubleshooting. What you need to do first is to restart your phone by taking out its battery. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute then reinsert the battery. This discharges your phone circuits and clears out its RAM. Reinsert the battery and turn on your phone.
If the problem still remains then try changing your SIM. Sometimes if a SIM gets damaged it will not allow your phone to register to a network.
If after getting a new SIM you still don’t have any signal on your device then you should backup your phone data and do a factory reset. This procedure usually fixes any software related problems.
If at this point the issue remains unresolved then this may already be a hardware problem. You need to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked,
