The first thing that most people look at when choosing a smartphone to buy is its display. This is probably because it is the most notable feature of the phone that catches the attention easily. The #Samsung Galaxy #S4 for example was once a very popular model when it was released 2 years ago due to its use of a Full HD 5 inch Super AMOLED display. Owners of this model who are still using it today swear that it has on of the best displays available for any smartphone model out in the market today.
There are however instances when some display related issues may occur. The Galaxy S4 screen flickering issue for example is one of these problems which we aim to resolve in this latest installment of our troubleshooting series.

S4 Screen Flickers When Brightness Is Low
Problem: Screen flickering issue sometimes when i adjust the brightness to 10 % flicking stop but when brightness is set to low in auto it happens randomly and other problem is with music player it stops unfortunately while selecting playlist tab please help.
Solution: Several owners of this device have also been experiencing this screen flickering issue especially when the brightness is set to a low level. Some people say that this is due to the Super AMOLED display being used by the phone although this only holds true if your phone is using a faulty display seldom occurs. Another possible reason is the software your phone is using. Some software versions cause the screen to flicker so make sure to check first if your phone is using the latest software update.
As a temporary solution make sure to check if your phone has the following settings listed below.
- Set the brightness level to maximum
- Uncheck auto brightness
- Uncheck auto adjust screen tone
- Do not use power saving
Sometimes certain apps you installed in your device may also contribute to the screen flickering issue. To check if this is the case you should start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the default apps are allowed to run while those apps that you downloaded are disabled. If you don’t experience the screen flickering issue in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app you installed. You should find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If however the screen flickering issue still occurs in Safe Mode then it’s time to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This will resolve the issue if the problem is caused by a corrupt software. This will also resolve the music player issue of your phone.
S4 Screen Flashes Then Turns Black When Using Mobile Data
Problem: When using mobile data, screen flashes and becomes black for a while and then comes to normal position. But when i am on wifi, nothing related to this thing happens.. why is it so?
Solution: This problem could be caused by some form of corrupt system data. I suggest you try to wipe the cache partition of your phone in recovery mode first and see if this solves the problem. If the issue still persists then backup your phone data and do a factory reset. Once the reset has finished do not install any apps on your phone yet. Connect to the Internet using your mobile data connection then check if you are still having the same issue.
If the issue persists then this may already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S4 Screen Does Not Turn On After Drop
Problem: I dropped my phone on a metal bleacher and it landed face down. I picked it up and noticed a spiderweb looking crack coming from about where the power button is fanning out onto the middle of the screen. My phone will not turn on , however it will vibrate and make the turning on sound. Also, the LEDS work, and I can charge my phone just fine. The only problem is that the screen will not turn on.
Solution: It appears that the display may already be damaged due to the drop. Your phone is still functioning and can still receive calls and text messages but it cannot show you the data since the screen is damaged. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have the display replaced. Alternatively, you should also consider getting a new phone if the cost of having the display replaced is almost the same as getting a new phone.
S4 Screen Goes Back To Previous Page
Problem: I recently had my phone screen replaced glass part only on my phone, and now for some reason I can be browsing on the internet or even on my settings and the screen will go “back” to the home page or the previous web page is there any way to fix this? Thank you.
Solution: There are two possible reasons why this issue is occurring. First, the screen replacement may have not been done properly. If this is the case then you should have it inspected again at an authorized service center. Before doing this though, you should first eliminate any software related causes to this issue by doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this procedure.
S4 Screen Glitches When Scrolling
Problem: when i scroll up on the let’s say on Facebook or anything else the screen glitches at the center then goes back to normal when i get a certain distance up and it fine but any where on the middle of the screen i cant click or scroll without it freaking out. i just got this phone
Solution: Try to check first if this issue is caused by some form of corrupt temporary data by wiping the cache partition of your phone in recovery mode. Check if the problem still persists.
Sometimes an app you installed in your phone could also cause this issue. To check if this is the case start your phone in Safe Mode. If in this mode the screen does not glitch while using an app then an app you downloaded may be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If however you still experience the same problem even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
S4 Black Screen
Problem: Hi there I have shattered the bottom right corner of my Samsung galaxy s4 and for some reason the screen has gone black. Icons on the bottom are lighting up and when I turn it on nothing is on the screen but if I press the screen like I was going to type my pin in it vibrates. Do I have to get a new screen or are there ways around it?
Solution: It looks like your phone display is already faulty, Since this is already a hardware related problem any troubleshooting that we do which by a very very slim chance will resolve the issue is only going to be a temporary solution. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have your phone display replaced.
S4 Screen Does Not Rotate
Problem: My screen won’t rotate and the air gesture doesn’t work. It used to but not any longer.
Solution: Try checking first if the screen auto rotate switch of your phone is on. This can be found under Settings then Display. If this feature is active then try to restart your phone as this may just be some glitch in the phone software.
If the problem still persists try checking if an app you downloaded is causing this problem. To do this you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. Once in this mode check if the auto rotate feature works. If it does then the problem may be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the issue still remains even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone and do a factory reset.
If the factory reset fails to resolve the issue then this may already be a hardware related problem possibly due to a faulty gyroscope feature. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
