It’s no secret at this point that the #Amazon #FirePhone was a complete failure for the company. The online retailer was giving away the phone for next to nothing in order to clear out the inventory.
Only recently we saw the handset selling for as little as $125, including $100 worth of Prime subscription. Well, it seems like Amazon has finally decided to call it quits with the smartphone receiving the permanently discontinued status following its forgettable run in the industry.
So what’s next for the company? Well, rumors are hinting that Amazon is looking to release a cheap $50 tablet for the mobile industry sometime later this year, which could be very interesting.
Although Amazon showed quite a lot of promise with the Fire Phone, it was unable to leave an impact on the market. Since Amazon uses a heavily forked version of Android with its devices, they cannot access Google Play Services, which means apps like Gmail, Google Maps as well as the Play Store will be missing.
