Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has scheduled an event for the 13th of August, where the company is expected to reveal the new custom UI known as MIUI 7 along with this year’s flagship smartphone, the Mi 5. A report from China suggests that the company might also unveil a midrange handset, called the Redmi Note 2 during the event.
For those new to the name, the company released the first gen Redmi Note in 2014 originally, so it’s already due an upgrade. This isn’t confirmed information of course, but the report goes on to mention that the 16 and 32GB models of the smartphone will be priced at the Chinese equivalent of $112 and $128 respectively.
It is said that the handset will be packing a 5.5 inch 1080p display panel, an octa core Mediatek MT6795 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 16/32GB of storage variants, a 13-megapixel camera on the back and Android 5.1 Lollipop with MIUI 7. To make things more interesting, a Chinese retailer has announced that the Redmi Note 2 will be available for purchase starting August 16, just three days after the alleged announcement date.
We’re taking this with a pinch of salt for now and suggest you do the same.
