Samsung Galaxy Note 3 unable to connect to mobile data

Problem #1: Samsung Galaxy Note 3 unable to use Straight Talk’s unlimited mobile data plan

I live in and bought the phone in Bahrain. I’m in the United States — Montana — for 2 months. I bought the Straight Talk unlimited plan (which worked on my Samsung Galaxy S2 last year), but I have no data other than Wi-Fi. Checked all the settings with Straight Talk; they are all correct.  The phone is not rooted, neither was the S2.  Ideas?? — Sue

Solution: Hi Sue. Checking the phone’s APN settings is only one of the things that you can do to resolve your issue. Another important consideration is to ensure that there’s no hardware problem that’s preventing you from connecting to Straight Talk’s network. Try using another SIM card and see if that works. If it does, you want to narrow down further to see if there are any billing-related causes from Straight Talk’s end.

Problem #2: AT&T Galaxy Note 3 with Straight Talk SIM unable to connect via mobile data

Okay. I have an AT&T phone put on Straight Talk. That phone broke so I got one just like it. And now that I have had this phone my internet is not working. I can’t browse the web or send and receive MMS. Also I cannot download any apps unless I’m connected to Wi-Fi. An some of them require the internet which I cannot use. — Shane

Solution: Hi Shane. The most likely reason for this trouble is the incorrect APN settings on your phone. If the APN values have been changed for some reason, or if the phone has been using a totally different one, it will not be able to establish a connection to Straight Talk network.

Alternatively, you can also use their online resource in updating your mobile data values.

Problem #3: Galaxy Note 3 cannot connect to mobile network and no options to turn on data

SAMSUNG GALAXY Note 3 CAN’T CONNECT USING MOBILE DATA and when i go to settings and go to more selections it’s only a VPN and no other selections to turn on my data. I did a factory reset the day all this stared taking place. — Janell

Solution: Hi Janell. You did not mention to us if you were able to use mobile data before on this device. If you were, an update or a third party app may have messed up the phone’s core function, preventing you to communicate with remote network servers to allow mobile connectivity. Please restart the phone in Safe Mode and see if it makes any difference. While in this mode, the phone will still allow you to connect to your network normally but will prevent third party apps from running. Here’s how to do it:

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power button.
  • When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting. It may take up to 45 seconds for the device to load safe mode.
  • ‘Safe mode’ will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode.’

Other third party apps may still load even when on safe mode. If nothing changes after doing it though, you can do another round of factory reset and try connecting to your network again without installing any apps first. That way you will know for sure if there’s a problem with your phone, or if you need to check with your carrier for more network- or account-specific support.

Keep in mind that if there are any outstanding billing-related problems, your phone may be restricted from using mobile data. Please talk to your carrier for assistance.

Problem #4: Galaxy Note 3 cannot establish good connection to Cricket 4G LTE

I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 unlocked T-Mobile from a friend. I use Cricket as my service provider(AT&T first but same problem) but the problem is I only get my 4G LTE connection like 4% of the time but most of the other time it’s on “e” about 96%. I’ve tried to Google APN setting and even tried the *#2263# settings. The phone was factory restored when it was given to me so I don’t know what to do. I really love this phone and don’t want anything else. Would you know any APN settings or something else I can try? — Blake

Solution: Hi Blake. The APN settings on your phone must be specific to network (SIM card owner) you are trying to connect to. Below are the Cricket APN settings we know but you have to validate them with Cricket technical team to be sure.

If your phone does have the correct APN settings, the problem may also be coming from Cricket’s own network in your area. If their 4G LTE service is unreliable or if you are from their service towers, the signal going in to your phone may be intermittent.

If you have another LTE capable device, try inserting your SIM card to it and observe how the connection goes.

Problem #5: Galaxy Note 3 won’t connect to mobile data after SIM card was used on another phone

Hi, I’m currently having issues with my Note 3. My phone wouldn’t hold a good charge for a while. And so I got tired of it so I took out my SIM card and switched it back to my phone before the Note 3. Now that I’ve put my SIM card back in the Note 3 my phone has reception but I can only make texts and phone calls. It won’t connect to my mobile data. And I would really like if you would help. Please and thank you — Morgan

Solution: Hi Morgan. Hi Morgan. Are you getting any error messages when trying to connect to the internet via mobile data? Also, have you tried checking if there are no account or billing restrictions preventing you from using mobile data?

The second question should only be answered after checking with your carrier so make you do that first.

Problem #6: Galaxy Note 3 fails to connect via mobile data after updating to KitKat 4.4.4

I have had my phone on Straight Talk for a while now. Everything is fine with my account, but after I did the update from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 in Kies3 my mobile data just won’t turn on. I have the APN setting correct, triple checked from multiple sources, unless somehow the APN settings could change due to the firmware upgrade? Please help, thanks for your time and experience. — JC

Solution: Hi JC. The best source to get accurate APN settings should be from your carrier. We know that APN settings should be pushed automatically to a device once a valid SIM card is inserted but the update may have changed some values that we don’t know of.

Assuming, however, that your APN settings are all correct, you can narrow down the possible causes by doing the standard phone troubleshooting like deleting the Note 3’s cache partition, restarting in safe mode, uninstalling apps, or doing a factory reset.

Problem #7: Galaxy Note 3 getting “mobile network not supported, error code 7” error

Hi. I need your help my Note 3 which cannot connect to mobile data…I was just using it last night then today when i tried using it it’s not even showing the 3G icon. When i rebooted my phone, I’m always getting the message “mobile network not supported, error code 7”. How can i fix this ? — Marbee

Solution: Hi Marbee. Some Note 3 settings must have been changed which resulted to this problem. Have you talked to your carrier about this error code? Some error messages are specific to carriers so their technical team can easily diagnose a problem. Please seek their assistance in this matter.

Problem #8: Galaxy Note 3 unable to send and receive emails when connected to mobile data

I have two problems:

  • My phone has inadvertently moved into Easy Mode.  Although I have gone into Setting > Device > Easy Mode, it shows that it is OFF.  How do I return my phone to its normal operations.
  • I can only receive and send emails via WiFi. I subscribe to AT&T but get no emails unless I’m connected via Wifi. I have gone into Setting > Connections > More Network > Mobile Networks, and have checked Mobile Data and Data roaming. When I click on Network Operators > Search for AT&T MicroCell, I repeatedly get the same message: “Failed to connect to mobile network via AT&T MicroCell. Try again.” I keep trying but to no avail. How do I get emails via telephone when I’m not connected via WiFi? Thank you. — Art

Solution: Hi Art. There’s really no accurate explanation why your Note 3 is stuck in Easy Mode. We recommend that you do a factory reset to refresh the firmware.

For your second concern, you have to check a few things to isolate which one is the cause. Depending on the app you are using, make sure that all your email sync options allow for both type of connections–Wi-Fi and mobile data. If this is a corporate email account, there is usually an option you can choose from on how you wish to sync your emails. Just ensure that this is taken cared of before doing other stuff.

Another logical thing to do is check with your carrier if there’s some settings on your phone that’s amiss. For example, if you are within coverage of your local network, you don’t need to enable data roaming. To see how your phone should be configured, please contact your carrier’s support team.
