LG released an Android 5.1 running flip phone called the Gentle recently. The Korean manufacturer has now released a similar smartphone meant for the global markets known as the Wine Smart. The handset comes with a 3.2 inch 320 x 420 display, a 3-megapixel camera on the back, a front facing camera for good measure, a 1.1 GHz quad core Snapdragon 210 chipset, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage (expandable), a 1,700 mAh battery and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
Although LG hasn’t announced the pricing for the smartphone yet, the LG Gentle costs somewhere around $170 in South Korea, so expect a price tag along the same lines for the Wine Smart. LG and Samsung are the only manufacturers out there who are bringing Android to the flip-phone form factor. However, these devices have seen very little success so far since the users prefer using Android on the slab form factor.
But with the right marketing and a decent price tag, we think the LG Wine Smart can appeal to the masses. There’s no word on a Stateside release as of yet.
