S5 Currently Unable To Download Please Try Again Later Error

Problem: I received a text message which I assume has an image and the phone says “currently unable to download please try again later”. I’ve restarted the phone several times, but the message still won’t download. I am connected to my home Wi-Fi

Solution: Some carriers require that you be connected to mobile data instead of Wi-Fi to download a picture message. Try to connect to enable the mobile data switch of your phone then see if you can download the message. Make sure that you have an active mobile data subscription when doing this.

S5 Not Sending Text Message

Problem: I got a Samsung galaxy s5 from asurion and I got it yesterday I added all my friends contacts and tried texting a sibling and it didn’t work it just said no network connection and it wouldn’t send then I tried calling and it said emergency calls only also when I turn off my phone all the way then turn it back on it says something about the Sim card i don’t know what’s going on please tell me if you can.

Solution: Do you have a SIM card installed in your phone? If you do not have one then you need to install a SIM if you are under a GSM carrier. If you have a SIM card installed already try checking if it is properly inserted. You should also try to take out the SIM card then insert it in another phone to see if it still works.

You should also determine if the phone is locked to another carrier. If it is then it may not be able to work with your current carrier.

Another option to consider is for you to use a new SIM card on the phone.

S5 Not Receiving Text Message

Problem: I have a Nexus 6 and a friend has the Samsung Galaxy S5.  He is not receiving my text messages.  Everyone else I contact gets them and he says he is getting other peoples.  He doesn’t think he is blocking mine but is there something he could be missing?  English is a 2nd language for him so I am posting this for him.

Solution: The first thing that needs to be done in this case is to check if your number may have been blocked. Have him check the ignore list of his phone and if you contact details are included just have him tap “remove from reject list”.

If your contact details are not included in the ignore list then the next thing that needs to be checked is if an app is blocking your message. To check on this the phone must be started in Safe Mode.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • When ‘Samsung Galaxy S5’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

Send him a message. If he can get the message then an app installed in his phone may be blocking your messages previously. He should find out what app this is and uninstall it.

S5 Not Getting Text Message Notification After Update

Problem: Since the last system update I do not get any sound when I get a text. I’ve restarted, taken battery out, but nothing helps. I looked for the problem on your site but couldn’t find a solution.  Please help! When I tell people that I didn’t receive their text I get the same look as if I said the checks in the mail. Bad analogy but you get what I mean. Thank you SOOOOOO much for all you do! You’ve solved many issues for many people.

Solution: Try checking the volume for your notification sounds and make sure it is set to maximum. You should also try using a different notification tone and check if the issue is still the same.

Wiping the cache partition of your phone also helps in cases like this.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
  • When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Since this problem occurred right after a software update then you should also consider doing a factory reset to resolve the problem. Make sure to back up your data first before proceeding.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.
