S5 Apps That Use GPS Crashes

Problem: Hello, I have the following problem: I just got a galaxy s5 and everything is great except that some apps crash in my phone and show the little window stating it stopped working. The thing in common between the apps that don’t work is that they’re all related to or use GPS/maps/location services. The 4 apps I currently have and crash are: uber, cabify, easy taxi, safer taxi, foursquare. To make things more rare, some apps that also use GPS/maps/location services DO work fine. For example: Google Maps and Waze (route planner). I already tried uninstalling the apps and re-installing them, checked for updates, reset the phone, removed the battery for more than 10s and even did a factory reset, but nothing worked. Please help me! Thank you very much in advance.

Solution: If a factory reset fails to resolve the problem then the problem may be caused by compatibility issues between the app and the phone software. Is your phone running on Android Lollipop? If it is then try to check with the developers of the affected apps regarding this issue. Some apps that used to work on KitKat but have issues on Lollipop have been updated by their developers and are now working fine. This may be what is happening in your phone right now.

S5 Facebook App Keeps On Freezing

Problem: Facebook constantly freezing on my phone.  My roommate has same phone and never has this problem. Just happens with this app.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled and reset phone to no avail. Help.

Solution: Here’s what you need to do to isolate the issue. Back up your phone data then do a complete factory reset.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Once the factory reset is complete install just the Facebook app. Observe the app if it freezes. If it doesn’t then install your favorite apps one at a time. After each app installation go back to your Facebook app then observe if it crashes. When you reach a point where your Facebook app crashes after installing an app then that app may be causing the problem.

If however the Facebook app crashes after you installed it from factory reset then there’s also a possibility that this may be caused by a faulty microSD card. Try taking out the microSD and see if the problem still occurs.

S5 Facebook App Freezes

Problem: Facebook has started freezing. I am able to close all open apps to restart, but this happens frequently. I have cleared the cache partition but have not done a factory reset.

Solution: Try uninstalling the Facebook app from your phone then download a fresh version from the Google Play Store. If the problem still remains then you should consider doing a factory reset. Just make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding with this procedure.

S5 Application Has Stopped Error

Problem: Certain apps when opened return  a “application has stopped” error message my zillow hotpads and truly apps won’t open tried rebooting tried resetting to factory defaults and uninstalling reinstalling apps no change any other ideas what could cause this problem?

Solution: One other factor to consider in this case is a faulty microSD card. If these affected apps store their data in your phone’s microSD card and if the card is faulty it may have difficulty accessing the data and will most likely lead to errors. Try to use a different microSD card on your phone then check if the problem still occurs.

S5 Unfortunately Snapchat Has Stopped Working

Problem: For a week now my snapchats not been working, everyone I try to log on it comes up with ‘unfortunately snapchat has stopped working’ and closes down. It does it every time I try to log in, alot of people with Samsung galaxy s5 are having this problem. I’ve also uninstalled and reinstalled it a numerous amount of times and cleared the ‘cache’ thing before and I’ve tried turning my phone of then on again and restarted it. Please help!

Solution: One last troubleshooting step that you can do is to do a factory reset. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

Once the factory reset has finished install Snapchat from the Google Play Store then check if it still crashes. If it still does then this may already be an issue with the app itself. You may need to wait for the next app update for this issue to be resolved.

S5 Uber Crashes If GPS Is Active

Problem: I ran across your website while looking for solutions with for my problem with my phone.  I bought my phone a month ago, it was my first smartphone. Everything has been working well up until a week ago. This is the first problem. I had been using uber for a few rides, and then it unexpectedly crashed on me. I reset the cache, cleared data, logged in and out, uninstall/install again, nothing has worked for it. The app would open just fine until I logged in. You can’t use it unless you log in. If my GPS is deactivated then it won’t crash, but it won’t work either cause it wants to know you location. And since I use this app frequently I wanted it solved. The only thing left was a factory reset of my phone. So I have all the information backed up, saved and whatever. I also use a 64GB microSD card. But I don’t know if that matters. So I reset the phone twice. Installed the App and the same problem was still there. I reset the phone via the settings selection settings>Backup and reset> Factory data reset. This didn’t solve the problem. So then I also did the Volume Up + Home key + Power button to access the system menu to clear the cache and reset the system. Same thing is happening.

Solution: It appears that the app may have compatibility issues with your phone software. You may want to wait for an update for the app to arrive which hopefully will fix the issue or you can contact the app developers regarding this matter.
