M8 Keyboard Sometimes Does Not Appear

Problem: Keyboard occasionally won’t appear and I have to restart the phone. In common causes 12 you say you have a solution but when I search the page it’s not there.

Solution: Try to check first if there are any new software updates available for your phone and apply them accordingly. There have been lots of reports regarding owners of this device having this issue after updating to Lollipop which may be resolved by a minor software update pushed by your carrier.

If your phone is running on the latest software update then the next thing you should try is to wipe the cache partition.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  • Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  • Continue holding the Volume Down.
  • Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  • Press the Volume Down key once to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to RECOVERY.
  • Press the Power key to begin the wipe.
  • The device displays the boot up screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.
  • Press the Up Volume key and Power key at the same time.
  • Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.
  • Press the Power key to initiate the wipe.
  • Wait until the phone displays Cache wipe complete.
  • Press the Power key to select Reboot system now.
  • If this does not resolve your issue, the next step a master reset.

If the issue still remains try doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before proceeding.

  • Press and hold the Power button
  • Tap Power off.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  • Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  • Continue holding the Volume Down key.
  • Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  • Press the Volume Down key twice to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to FACTORY RESET.
  • Press the Power key to perform the master reset.

M8 Keyboard Lag & Messages Keep Crashing

Problem: Recently in the past two days or so whenever im using my keyboard it lags and takes awhile for the letters to pop up. And if i open my messages app it has been crashing, like alot. Sometimes it will crash like 3 times in a row before i can even get one short message out. Its rather frustrating..

Solution: For any issue regarding lag or slow downs the best thing to do first is to wipe the cache partition of your phone.

  • The device displays the bootup screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.

For the message app crashing you should start with clearing  the cache and app of the app itself.

  • From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll to ‘PHONE,’ then tap Apps.
  • Scroll left to the ALL tab.
  • Tap the desired application.
  • Tap Clear Data.
  • Tap OK.
  • Tap Clear Cache.

If both issues continue to persist then a factory reset is highly recommended. Make sure to backup your phone data before proceeding.

  • Press and hold the Power button
  • Tap Power off.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  • Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  • Continue holding the Volume Down key.

M8 Messaging App Goes To Inbox View After Clicking Response

Problem: When accessing texts after tapping the response box app kicks back to “inbox” view. Reassessing the any item results in the same reaction. Using Hangouts primarily. When this starts,  other SMS apps will all do the same thing. Reboot typically fixes, but getting to be more frequent. Phone has been both factory reset (freezing app fix, unrelated to texting) & cleared the cache.

Solution: Try checking if this issue is caused by a third party app installed in your device by starting your phone in Safe Mode.

  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • On the screen, touch and hold Power off under Phone Options.
  • When the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ message appears, tap RESTART.
  • When the phone restarts it will be in safe mode.

Once in Safe Mode check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then it may be caused by an app that you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
