American customers can already purchase the 5.5 inch Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 handset through online retailer Amazon. The manufacturer has now announced that it will be bringing a smaller 4.7 inch version of the handset to the U.S. shores as well, known simply as the OneTouch Idol 3 4.7, owing to the display size. You will only have to shell out $179.99 for the handset, which is pretty decent considering the hardware on board.
The model currently available in the U.S. is a phablet as it packs a 5.5 inch display, so this new variant will appeal to a different set of customers in the country. The handset will also be up for grabs in Canada on the same day.
The OneTouch Idol 3 4.7 packs a 4.7 inch 720p display, a 13-megapixel camera on the back, a 5-megapixel front camera, a 1.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon 410 SoC, a 2,000 mAh battery and Android 5.0 Lollipop. Alcatel OneTouch has mentioned that the Idol 3 4.7 will feature the necessary patch for the Stagefright vulnerability out of the box, quelling any fears among prospective buyers.
Amazon will be the exclusive seller of this 4.7 inch Idol 3 smartphone, much like the bigger 5.5 inch model.
