You can now get Microsoft’s Cortana voice assistant for your Android device [Download]

Cortana Android

We’ve heard about Microsoft’s intentions to get the Cortana voice assistant on Android to increase user base. But this app is far from being officially available. However, that’s all set to change now with apk file containing the Cortana virtual assistant for Android leaking out prematurely. You can find the file from a Google Drive page, which will give you a very early look of Microsoft’s competitor to Google Now and Siri.

It was previously believed that Cortana on Android would require a Windows 10 running PC to function. But luckily, that doesn’t appear to be the case here as it works on its own and can take commands pretty well. The app doesn’t appear to be a beta product, which is good news as Microsoft could be close to officially bringing it to the Google Play Store, although a recent report suggested otherwise.

As is the nature of early access apps, we have to mention that it might have some bugs that we weren’t aware of before, so remember that you’re trying it at your own risk. Head over to the link below to download the app and sideload it onto your smartphone.

  1. WHY??? Without the deep integration, does MS really think that this will be a thing? Google Now and Siri both beat out Cortana on their own respective platforms, Google Now often beat out Siri in just plain usefulness and it all boiled down to deep integration with other apps and databases. I just have to assume that MS is throwing the kitchen sink at Android since Windows Phone kinda turned out to be a dud. That would be the logical explanation why we now have One Drive, all of the basic MS Office apps and Outlook for Android now. At least this way, their software devs aren’t a complete waste of investment.
