Jus a few days after fellow incumbent startup OnePlus announced the OnePlus 2, Yota Devices has changed their tune on the availability of their flagship, the Yotaphone 2. The latter device will not be coming the US, even after a successful Indiegogo campaign earlier this year.
In an update to backers, Yota Devices says that the logistics for getting devices into the US would take too long due to manufacturer delays. Because of the delays, Yota decided to cancel the launch, due to interference with their plans for 2016, which could have lead to more customer complaints.
“In turn, we believe that the likelihood of a severe delay in these shipments would have created a conflict with our international road map for 2016, leaving Indiegogo supporters behind when customers in other regions will be offered a newer, cheaper and better YotaPhone.”
Instead, Yota will be offering backers an international version of the Yotaphone 2, which lacks support for LTE bands in the US. As to a refund option, Yota will be refunding customers directly, and not through their credit cards. The semantics of that will be decided soon, once they figure out how.
