T-Mobile HTC One M9 getting Android 5.1 today

HTC One M9

Most OEMs have already commenced the rollout of Android 5.1 for their smartphones. We’re now learning that T-Mobile will begin sending out the update for its variant of the HTC One M9 later today. The change log shouldn’t see too many changes, although there could be a few HTC specific tweaks on board as we’ve seen on other variants so far.

In the new features section, all we’re seeing is Android 5.1, Anti-Theft, Google Wallet and battery improvements. Expectedly, the update is quite massive at 833MB, so it is advised that customers connect to a WiFi network before downloading the update on their T-Mobile branded One M9. We’re guessing HTC’s suite of camera improvements are bundled with the update here, so don’t be surprised to find a refined camera experience after the update.

Don’t expect a lot to change in terms of the user interface though as the smartphone is currently running on Android 5.0 and Android 5.1 doesn’t bring a lot of visual changes to the table.

The carrier has mentioned that the update could be sent out anytime between the 27th of July to the 20th of August, so don’t lose hope if the update notification hasn’t popped up on your smartphone already. In any case, it might help if you check for an update from Settings – About – Software updates.
