S4 Lag In Viewing Available Wi-Fi Connections

Problem: After the recent Lollipop 5.0.1 update I get the Settings not responding warning message (attached) when I turn on wifi then open Settings to view wifi networks  on my Samsung Galaxy S4 l. It then goes to a semi black screen when I select Wait. It then eventually shows all wifi networks or connects to the relevant wifi network. I use to select OK and there is some lag time before it goes back to my home screen and I have to start the process again. Settings now has around a 20-30 second lag when it tries to load the wifi page to see available wifis. I can also select the Wifi button on the Quick Menu drop down but it has the same result. I also get a recurring random pop up message saying cannot download,  try again later. Not sure what it relates to though….perhaps a MMS but not received any message telling me I have one. I have cleared the cache already. I’ve updated all apps. Not sure what else to do. Regards

Solution: In most cases where lag is noticeable on a phone the first thing to do is to restart the device. If restarting you phone does not help then your next step is to wipe the cache partition of your phone.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
  • When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • After the the cache wipe is complete, press the Power key to select reboot system now.
  • Press the Power key to select. The phone will automatically restart after the cache is wiped.

If the problem still persists after this then you’re going to have to wipe the cache partition of your phone. Make sure to backup your data before proceeding.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

S4 Wi-Fi Does Not Turn On

Problem: Hey, My galxy s4 keeps wifi icon dim when turning on and never turns on. infact, on your web page, i read that a rest may help. it worked as i was setting up the phone afresh (i.e used wifi to set up my email address na d all that stuff when rebooting from factory reset), but when i turned wifi OFF. same problem again. Whats wrong?

Solution: Try doing another round of factory reset but this time don’t install any of your apps yet. Check if you can turn on your Wi-Fi. If you can turn it on then install your apps one at a time. After every app installation check your Wi-Fi by turning it off then on. Once you get to a point where you can’t turn on your Wi-Fi after installing a certain app then that app is causing the problem. Uninstall it.

If however you can’t turn on your Wi-Fi after a factory reset then this may already be a hardware related problem. Bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Sharing Mobile Data Connection

Problem: Hello!  I searched but i could not find the answer  of my question. So i have 3g but i want to share it with my friends.  Is there a way to activate it?

Solution: You will need to activate the hotspot feature of your phone to do this.

  • Touch Apps
  • Scroll To Settings
  • Touch More Settings
  • Touch Tethering and portable hotspot
  • Touch configure
  • Enter the hotspot name
  • Touch Password
  • Enter the password for your hotspot
  • Touch Save
  • Touch Portable Wi-Fi hotspot

S4 No Wi-Fi Signal

Problem: Hi Guys, I am about to throw this phone out of the window!!  I have never had so much trouble with a Samsung before. I have a Samsung S4 with a 4.4.2 version.  I have sent this phone back 3 times since Feb 2014 as I cannot seem to get a proper signal or proper WiFi. Now they have sent me a totally new phone but the same thing is happening!!!  I connect to my WiFi – it says connected and the signal strength is very strong – but when I try to do something, even go into settings I can’t do it, it wont let me as I have only one bar of signal and no WiFi at all but it is still connected and very strong signal. It is sending me loopy, it is the same when I connect to my brother’s WiFi even sitting next to him, he gets full WiFi and full signal strength and I get nothing!!  What is going on, can you help before I lob this in the bin!!!

Solution: Try turning off your phone and router then turn both devices back on after a few seconds. On your phone, turn on the Wi-Fi setting then forget your Wi-Fi connection. Scan for the connection again then connect to it.

If you still can’t get any Wi-Fi signal try to do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before proceeding.

Check your Wi-Fi connection again. If the problem persists then this may already be hardware related. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.
