Problem #1: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 keeps on showing error in status bar about Google Service Play
I keep getting an error message in the bar saying Google Service Play error. Also a triangle with an exclamation mark appears in the top left hand side of the screen and below the message it says requested by Google Music, even though I wasn’t using it and if I do, it still works. A message also comes up in a white box in the middle of the screen when i use Facebook or playing apps. I have deleted them and the cache then downloaded again. Restarting the phone doesn’t solve the problem. — Alastair
Solution: Hi Alastair. Try to clear your phone’s Google Services Framework and see if it helps. We noticed that there seems to be an increasing number of Google-related app issues lately so the issue may either be coming from Google Services Framework or Lollipop itself.
Problem #2: App preferences and data are deleted when moved from one storage device to another
“Hi. I’m sorta still new to Android and the Google apps but have found out that if i need to reinstall an app or if I, for whatever reason, need to shift the app from local storage to SD card or vice versa, all previous data is deleted. Unless i really make an account, and nowadays often it only links to Facebook for login, i would start from scratch. Doesn’t Android use some sort of udid like iPhone does so it restores former usage data and preferences? Or is there another way to assure previous data isn’t lost? Thank you in advance!” — Carmen
Solution: Hi Carmen. Reinstalling an app or moving it to another storage device will normally result to your app preferences, settings, and data reset. Unless the app in question has its own cloud feature that keeps your settings and data intact, there is no workaround for this limitation.
Problem #3: Keyboard app keeps on crashing on Samsung Galaxy Note 4
Every so often my Samsung keyboard crashes. — Sybilla
Solution: Hi Sybilla. Try to clear your keyboard app’s cache and data by doing the steps below:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Applications.
- Tap Manage Applications.
- Tap the All tab.
- Look for the keyboard app and tap it.
- From there, you will see the Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons.
If that won’t fix it, try using a third party keyboard app as a remedy.

Problem #4: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 message delay when using WhatsApp
Hi TDG. I am Jacky from Malaysia. I am having WhatsApp messages delaying problem with my Note 4 and I hope that you can help me. At first, it runs smoothly without any delay but after 3 to 4 weeks, it is getting serious each day. I have surfed through some websites for solutions but it was temporarily fixed only and after 3 to 4 weeks, it happened AGAIN. I have tried to un-installed and re-installed again, it just worked for few weeks only. I have tried another method which was installed an app (PNF No-Root) that recommended from WhatsApp official website but it didn’t work at all. This is the first time of using Android based smartphone and I have totally no idea how to deal with it. Can you please help me?
Hope to hear from you soon. Yours sincerely. — Jacky
Solution: Hi Jacky. We have no idea what troubleshooting steps you have tried so far but we recommend that you do the standard ones. These are the go-to solutions if a user is experiencing an app problem.
If you continue to experience the same problem after doing all these, you may want to consider using another messaging app or contact Whatsapp developer team for more help.
Good afternoon. I have 2 problems after I had upgraded my Samsung Note 4 to 5.0.1. Please assist and advise how i could solve it.
- I turn on my phone after it was on screen saver. It will tend to appear and direct me to the Google Play Store instead of the home page.. asking me to install some different apps (at different times).
- My handphone will display “something wrong with you version. Please update” What does that mean?
Hope you can revert asap. Thank you. — Vi
Solution: Hi Vi. It has come to our attention that there may be a malware or adware that forces devices to open the Google Play Store instead of opening the intended app. To be safe, we recommend that you perform a factory reset to wipe your phone clean. After that, try to install apps from reputable developers only. This type of problem is caused by rogue apps that inserts malware or virus to devices so your best defense is vigilance. Downloaded files may also infect your device so take proper precaution when getting something from the internet.
Your second question may also be tied to the first one so a factory reset must be a necessary solution here.
Problem #6: How to recover game app progress after they were re-installed
I just upgraded my Galaxy 4 to the Note 4. They did a swap of everything on my old phone to my new one. The game apps themselves showed up, but all progress was lost. How do I get the progress back for king games such as Farm Heroes, Bubble Witch, etc.
Thanks in advance for your help! Hope you have a great day! — Rebecca
Solution: Hi Rebecca. Unless those games offer cloud-based saving feature, there’s no way to recover your progress. If you used to sign-in before playing these games, try to log back in and see if you can go back to last checkpoint. If not, that means that your game progress was only saved locally (to your old phone) and they were never saved to a remote server.
Problem #7: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 cannot finish Google Play Store update
I have had a Note 4 for a couple of weeks and I am unable to download or update apps. When I open the Google Play Store the status of the app says that it is updating/installing but it never finishes. I have tried turning the phone on and off but this doesn’t help. What should I do?
Thanks for your help. — Henry
Solution: Hi Henry. You can delete the phone’s cache partition and/or delete Google Services Framework data.
Problem #8: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 slow when opening apps
Hey. I’m emailing you in response to your article on the Dripper app.
My Note 4 has always been noticeably slower (loading YouTube videos and Web pages etc..) than the other Samsung phones that I’ve compared it to, including my girlfriend’s S4. and that was pretty much right out of the box.
Now, it’s started freezing on everything from Facebook (most frequently) to Email while switching to other apps. It even froze up while I was switching from the Dripper app to write this email. I had to close all apps and start over.
If that wasn’t annoying enough it’s painfully slow launching apps, and acquiring GPS signal. It’s pretty frustrating getting this fancy new top shelf phone and always being the one waiting while someone else just pull up Nav on their phone instead, haha.
Also may be worth noting that, I ran a few bench mark tests when I first noticed how slow it was and it ranked very highly (above the phones I was comparing it to, like the S4) but the performance doesn’t reflect it.
Any tips you can offer would be greatly appreciated! — James
Solution: Hi James. Performance issues on any given phone can only be caused either by hardware or firmware issues. To isolate the problem, try to do the following:
- Clear the phone’s cache partition
- Check the phone’s memory status. If the primary storage device or SD card is almost near capacity, they sometimes cause lag, freezing, or slow performance problems. Make sure that you don’t have a problem in this area.
- Power up the phone in Safe Mode. This process is used to determine if third party applications are causing the problem. If the phone works fine when in safe mode, consider uninstalling third party apps until the problem has been eliminated.
- Perform a factory reset.
Problem #9: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 updates apps after every reboot
It seems that every time I turn on my Note 4, there are up to a dozen apps that ‘waste time’ performing App Updates. Some seem to do daily updates. All this updating takes time from booting up & getting to normal operation. Is there a way to prevent apps from updating? If an app is ‘working fine’ & you use it occasionally, do you really need it to be updated every day? Is all this updating really necessary or see the app makers just trying to suck yardage data from your phone? I also get noticed that X # apps has slowed the processor down because they keep re-starting. What’s all this re- about? And how do you stop it when you may use that app during a session. Once started, what makes them stop & restart? — Herbert
Solution: Hi Herbert. To turn off app automatic updates, just follow the steps below:
- From the Home screen, tap Apps.
- Tap Google Play Store app.
- Tap the Menu icon.
- Choose Settings.
- Now, tap on Auto-update apps.
- To enable automatic application updates, tap Auto-update apps at any time or Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only.
- To disable automatic application updates, tap Do not auto-update apps.
It is recommended that you update your apps regularly to avoid security and incompatibility issues.
Some apps are designed to run in the background while others need to be manually tapped to run. If you notice performance problems due to multiple apps running simultaneously, you can try to delete the phone’s cache partition. If that won’t resolve the problem, run the phone in safe mode and observe as other apps may be to blame.
Problem #10: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 lags and keeps getting redirected to Google Play Store
I have serious lag issues. My phone has slowed considerably within the past few months, even though I continuously delete photos, video, threads, call logs, etc. I use Clean Master and “boost” my phone constantly throughout the day. I also get random advertisements for different apps on Google Play. They come and go. Also, the screen sometimes “flickers” and appears to reboot in a fraction of a second. This doesn’t shut my phone down, just flickers. I have a large memory card (I think it’s a 64GB), so memory shouldn’t even be an issue. I’ve heard it’s the new software upgrade, but last I updated was at least 6 months ago. Also, sometimes apps randomly freeze and/or just close. I occasionally get an app error message, sometimes it just closes. I also restart my phone every day or two. Nothing seems to help. Please help. Thanks in advance. — Michael
