Samsung patents technology which allows users to measure body fat percentage

Samsung Body Fat Patent

Users will soon be able to measure their total body fat, thanks to a new patent filed by Samsung. The patent reveals how the user’s body fat percentage can be checked using four sensors that would either be built into the device or be somewhere around it, i.e. on a case or a cover. This could be a very interesting feature for fitness enthusiasts when made available.

Here’s how the company describes it in the patent application – “acquiring the object’s impedance information on the basis of the intensify of the input current and the intensity of the measured voltage; and acquiring the object’s body fat information on the basis of the impedance information.”

Since it’s only a patent application for now, we’re not sure as to when the feature will be officially available on a Samsung smartphone. We’re curious to know if Samsung will make this feature available to older devices as well, given that the sensors could be implemented on a case or a cover. It is possible though that the company would look to implement the feature in the 2016 Galaxy S flagship.

Samsung has been heavily pushing health related features on its devices and lets users keep a track of their health vitals using the S Health app on its smartphones and tablets.
