Samsung held a Tizen Developer Conference in India today, where it confirmed some of the features that are expected to be on board the new Gear A smartwatch. For starters, it was confirmed that the wearable will use the Tizen 2.3.1 operating system, with a circular display bearing a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels.
The company also confirmed the much rumored rotating bezel ring of the wearable, which could be one of the major talking points when the smartwatch is unveiled on the 13th of August (rumored), along with the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+. Samsung hasn’t confirmed the rest of the hardware specifications of the wearable, but we expect leaks to give us a detailed idea of that over the coming days.
The Gear A will be Samsung’s competitor to the current crop of Android Wear smartwatches as well as the Apple Watch. We hope the Gear A will be compatible with more smartphones out of the box, rather than limiting them to just Samsung smartphones.
